I had the same problem. I found that by adding a 1' square tubing and getting
longer bolts the shade goes behind the bunk. Works for me.

For those of you to tell me I don't know the difference between 1' and 1" it's all

I'm getting ready to install the rear window shades. Anyone out there
had experience? How did youfasten the fixtures to the fiberglass shell?

Wayne,
I just did that 2 weeks ago. The rear window was a lot different
then the side windows. I found that I had to make blocks out of
plywood (about 3/4") to allow the shades to stand out far enough.
The brackets I just screwed through the plywood blocks right into
the plastic cap above the window. I used sheet metal screws. No
mollys or any other hardware.

Ken Guske told me that was the way to do it and since he's a GMC
owner with a fine set of shades in his coach who sold me my shades
I decided to do it that way. So far they have stayed up, even though
I only put them up with 2 brackets because the shade company
shorted me 2 brackets and I ran out of time. Guske sent me 2 more
brackets later to make up the difference.
I hope this helps,

Thanks. I finally reached Ken and he told me about the same thing. I was
most concerned about just screwing into the ABS. I wasn't sure it would
hold. On my coach, I measured 1 1/4 inches at the center and 1/2 inch at the
sides, for the spacers. I wish I had measured this several days ago. I may
have to go to the Crabs rally without painted spacers. I also made 3/4 Inch
spacers for the front bunk hardware, to clear the shades. I had to think
about that one for several days. The upper bunk still works fine.

Maybe we need to add a page of helpful hints about installing the shades.

I've wondered about the clearance for the bunk hardware. As my
installation is configured now, I can't lower the shade over the bunk
all the way. It hits the left bracket of the upper bunk. Can you expand
on what you did there?

I'm also planning on installing some sort of valance around the shades. The
final plan I've not worked out. I'm lucky to just have had the shades up in
time for my last trip.

It would be a good thing to have pictures of this sort of thing on a web page
some place. I've thought about creating a web page of my own to help me
understand web page design better and to also show off what I have been
doing with my GMC.

Emery,
That sounds like work! I don't like to work. I hope I
can come up with some other plan. Then again I guess
that's why I have that welder sitting in the garage. Gee
this GMC keeps making me do more and more stuff to her.

I looked at the bunk problem for quite a while and suddenly, it hit me....I cut a shim
made out of 3/4 inch Plywood, drilled 2 holes and it gives just the right clearance.
I still haven't figured out a full length valence on the left side, yet. Probably
can't. A lot of the people have done away with the bunk, but I wanted to keep it.
Paint it to match the wall, and I believe it will "disappear".

Wayne that sounds like a good idea. I'll look into that.

I was told to get rid of the bunk, because we were never going
to use it. But then guess what? On our recent trip to Kansas
and back we used it while parked in rest stops for a few hours
of sleep. Since we had our 2 kids with us and the dinette was
covered with all sorts of travel crap, we just raised the bunk and
both kids had a place to sleep.

I'm going to keep it for the time being.
