Installing large vent fan in bathroom of a Royale?

I'd like to install a maxxair fan in the bathroom of my Royale - it looks like there is a support rail (running front to back) in the roof over the
dry part of the bath so there isn't enought room there. Does anyone know if the section over the shower has enough room? I know people have done it
on their non-coachman coachs, but I don't think I've seen it on a Royale.

I looked in the parts book, but can't really tell from the drawing there if there is a support rail there or not.

This is a side bath.

If you have a good stud finder, they will work to find the ribs. If I
recall correctly, there is a 14 x 14 opening in the rib structure on some
coaches with dry baths on the sides. Don't know if all of them do.

Aron,
Since you will tend not to walk around that area, one can cut the stringers
and let the Max air act as support.
You can go toward the curved portion and the unit will have a slight gap
that can be filled up with roof putty.
Always check that there will be clearance when the lid is opened.
Max air units have two arms and they mention that you can drive with it
open.
If you like, call me and I'll give you measurements on my install.

The stringers are Al and welded.No steel.
You can droop the panel down a little and use a mirror and flashlight to
look.

1978 GMCs came with a large Hammond vent from the factory. Also the bath module fiberglass was made especially for the large vent. Measuring one
outside on the roof or from the inside or the top might help locate where exactly to mount yours.

around the indent.

Reading between the lines: Are you saying the roof structure differs year
to year and model to model? I thought the models were more paint schemes
rather than floorplans or structural differences.

Aaron, the service manual x-7525, on page 1-24, figure 38, shows the roof
rib structure. No dimensions are given, but, you can see what is up there.
Somewhere, there exists actual scale drawings with dimensions for both the
26 and 23 foot coaches. I just don't have them in my posession. Someone out
there has them.

The images do not show the location of the bathroom, they show the location of the bulkheads / longerons / stringers.

Aaron, out of curiosity, are you doing this to vent the bathroom, or just to put the vent fan in the quietest place? I guess another benefit would be
that if you left the flap open in the rain, no big deal! ;)

My coach doesn't have a vent fan, except the little one in the bathroom that doesn't work.

My objectives are,

1. install large vent fan
2. Put working fan and skylight in bathroom
3. Temp control (bought a maxxair that has a thermostat)

My cats litter box stays in the shower (it's a dry bath) so my bathroom door stays open all the time.

It would work for me if I mounted it in the center of the roof - but that wouldn't take care of #2.

I don't know about the framing in the bath.
When I removed the rear vent to install my rear air conditioner there was no framing at all.
I used angle aluminum from lowes and lots of pop rivites.
A lot more work than I expected.

My Royale has a large fan in the side (dry) bath up above the toilet. Installation looks like it's had problems (messy sealing) but I've not had
close look at it.
