innerCV joint leak

I have a leak on both inner CV joints. The leak is not where I expected. It is not where the seal housing fits on the joint itself but in the area
where the rubber seal is crimped to the seal housing. It is leaking where the factory Not where the tin meets the casting. That joint, which I
installed is dry. The rubber to metal joint made by the manufaturer is what is leaking. It has thrown out a lot of grease.

What is going on? Is this a manufacturing defect on both joints? Did I overfill the joint with grease? I'm looking to get it corrected or put my
mind to rest before Shawnee.

Steve, you may have over filled the joint. No moly grease is needed in the
rubber bellows, only in the trunion bearings, trunion pins, and housing
where the trunions roll back and forth. No harm, except for the mess, clean
up the excess grease that oozes out, and where it has slung out onto
everything, and drive it.

I had the same problem on one of my inner cv joints after about 30k miles. It was not over filled. Using alcohol and a little lacquer thinner I cleaned all the grease off the rubber/metal joint, re-crimped the joint and and sealed it with RTV. No problem for the last 10k miles. My solution.

Being its an aluminum cover, you need to be careful and augment the seal
with RTV

Here are 3 pictures of my inner CV joint. Indicator shows where the leak is coming from.

One picture is the leaking joint. The other two show more detail of this area using my spare axle assembly.

Next time, not so much grease. But I don't have to worry if I got enough in there.
