Any one aware of the below proposal???

Paul Bartz

Congress will be voting in less than two weeks.

CNN stated that the Government would in two weeks time decide to allow or
not allow a Charge to your phone bill equal to a Long Distance call EACH
time you access the Internet.

The address is http://www.house.gov/writerep/
http://www.house.gov/writerep/ . If you choose, visit the address above
and fill out the necessary form. If EACH one of us, forward this message on
to others in a hurry; we may be able to prevent this injustice from
happening!

Paul,

I'm not saying this "ain't so", but hoax's similar to this roll around
every few months. Note that there is no attribution for the CNN quote
and no URL were one can find the "facts". Did this come to you from a
source that could provide more details? An "HR" or "SB" number would be
nice.

This situation has been brewing for some time. It's being pursued by the
current Long Distance carriers(MCI, ATT, Sprint) because of the upcoming
'VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCALL' facility that will let ANY Internet service
provider (ISP) offer long distance service for little or no cost. The
Voice over IP opportunity requires the Internet service provider to become
a CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Company) . Over 400 ISPs have gotten
this designation and will be offering Long Distance services for as little
as $.01 per minute of even FREE as part of your monthly Internet access
charge. This is all coming about due to significant improvements in the
Internet equipment now being sold and implemented by us here at Cisco
Systems. I am happy to be a part of the 'Change in the way people live,
work, learn and play'.

Thom,

Okay, but who's responsible for this injustice? Is this an FCC action
or a pending house resolution(HR) or senate bill(SB)? Since the URL
pointer in Paul's original email was for the House of Representatives,
it should be simple enough to provide the HR number. Sending an angry
email to your congressman without an HR number is pointless.

I've just seen too many of these "call-to-action's" that were hoaxes to
start firing off emails without some substantiation. If it's an FCC
action, then there should be an NPRM time period(possibly the "two
weeks" mentioned in Paul's email). The NPRM(Notice of Proposed Rule
Making) will have a number. If it's a pending bill, there's an HR or SB
number.
