I'm back, and EFI

I put the Howell/General Motor's EFI on 3 years ago. Been extremely happy with it. Got it from Jim K at Applied GMC. In the mountains or on the great plains. The main shining points to me are. Includes spark control. As that's a big part of why to put EFI on to start with. It's a system that's been used since 1987. So well time tested. It's a very well known system in the GMC community. You can walk into any parts store anywhere to get any of it's GM components. We got 8.3 MPG on a trip from Iowa to Az. With a Royale that are the heavies of all GMC's at 12,000 lbs. And pulling Linda's 5000 lbs handicap Uplander life van. Simple to install. I put two fuel pumps, and all the fuel lines on the outside of the frame rails. To have them in cooler air. Thanks Bob!
I am happy to hear that there are no new units to have to chose from. What kind of time frame did it take to install?

Bob. It took me about 2 hrs. Installed, and drove it. The idle wasn't where I wanted it. Called Randy Van Winkle. He said to put 50 miles on it. And it would learn what to do. It was perfect after 30 miles. The real key to a good performing EFI is in the spark control. Without including the ignition timing. And knock sensor. You've just got an electronic Q jet carb. The Vi Fi-Tech, and other sound great it their simplicity to install as to wiring. I'm no sparky. But I thought that the Howell/GM system was well labeled, straight forward, and simple to install. I look at our trips in our GMC. Like Apollo 13. Failure is not an option. So I go with tried, and true. Then there's a great support network. Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale Iowa .

What are the biggest reasons to go EFI?
I am not sure but I seem to average a stall for every 100 miles drive.
So far I have been blaming vapor lock.
Will EFI eliminate vapor lock?
Why else should I go EFI?
Sorry, I forgot my sig.

It will help immeasurably on vapor lock, but if you keep away from long idles in traffic, the stock radiator and a good water pump will keep it
sufficiently cool. My23' went from giving up on a local mountain to walking over it with either toad behind it.
My current coach came with MSG Atomic throttle body injection which hadn't quite been sorted out when the engine let go. I will be speaking with MSD
regarding a starting point and sequence of adjustments to get the thing working properly.

Bob,

It only took 2 hours? Don't you have to install O2 sensors? I thought that O2 sensor bungs needed to be welded into the exhaust system. Are you
using stock fuel pumps?

I had welded the OX bung in the week before. While the exh pipe was in the GMC. Didn't take long. Drilled the pipe. Clamped, and ran a bead. The key to make the job simple. Is get organized. And make sure you have all the parts on hand to start with. Thinking of installing it was harder then doing it. Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale Iowa

Bob. Forgot your question on the pumps. Two external pumps on the outside of the frame rails at the rear. Bob Dunahugh

Fuel injection has little to do with vapor lock.
Having run it for over 30 years,
It can decrease the chances about 20%.
All depends on how the fuel is pulled from the tank and how it is routed
and if aux pump is utilized and other factors.
We sell EFI Kits of all types and I can tell you our customers can attest
to the fact that EFI has little effect on vapor lock issues.
