Got most of my new gauges and warning lights installed this weekend...Oil
pressure excellent at 40 lbs @ 850rpm.Problem vacuum gauge shows 15" steady
@ 850rmp. Bring her up to 2000rpm and let off guickly. Vac. goes down to 10"
and then back to 20'' and returns to 15''. One odd thing cold engine vac
very low 7 or 8" 5 min later goes to 17" When @ 185* it drops to 15"
steady.I then went to check timing. Because of the power steering pump
bracket i can not see the 8* mark. Can only see 2 and 4 had to guess at 8* Am
i missing something or does one need to use a mirror. Does the low vacuum
sound like a intake manifold leak? Also hooked up gen. warning light and it
stayed on. Can someone refresh my memory on the outcome of the thread a few
weeks ago about the gen light staying on. My amp.meter shows it is
charging..Thanks Pat Morrison 74 XPD custom

It is not unusual for a very dim warning light to be showing on the charging
system. There is an addition that you can do to take care of that. In my case,
I was very concerned when I was new, but after talking to old timers, I only
worry when it glows BRIGHT red, and that hasn't happened, yet.
