ignition noise and South Padre Island

This is just a suggestion, but I'd try putting a big 'ol piece of flat
braided from the coil ground directly to the engine block, preferably with
internal toothed washers on both ends. Think really big, like 2 or 4 gauge.

It moves, it flexes, it grounds. Try an auto parts store. You need to ground
the coil to the engine.

Get a noise suppression choke assembly for the 12v input of the radio, one
with a decent sized toroid and as big an electrolytic as you can find.

We made some noise killing SOBs [classic meaning] that would even quiet down
a Leece Neville alternator. I can take a look see if we've got any in the
parts room if you want. We used them on some 'government' command centers
that are still in use today (and probably still classified). Let me know and
I'll see what I can do as long as it doesn't endanger national security.

And my follow-up question: are you trying to kill spark noise or alternator
whine or both?

PS no info on Texas, my friend.
