I was going to install my Caspro Electronic Knock Eliminator (EKE) and
pulled my distributor cap off to splice my wires. I noticed a small label
loose (wedged into a corner) looks like it came off the ignition module
(which is black not white). It says "Warranty Void If Module Is Removed" and
has a PN (on this label) of 90-0182-30.

Does it sound like the right module? Jim Bounds mentioned he had a hard time
trying to time it correctly. He said it would ping badly and had to retard
it more than what it should have been. Probably accounts for the 7.5 MPG he
got going to Forrest City. Any thoughts...

What's the correct module # (GMCMI Parts book says Delco 875990) and does it
need to be timed once it's been replaced? Thanks...

It seems that quite often the parts in the GMC parts book are superceded by
placing a "1" in front of the original part number. I guess that GM did
this to make room for more parts numbers in their system.

The Old Old DELCO REMY, which it was called in the early days before
HEI, just after the heaters were almost standard production
"HA HA" ignition part numbers started out with 6 digits usually
using the first number as a 8. Thats really showing my age.
I was on the GM parts council for a couple of years we tried to get them
to do that, Ford part numbers are like that some what but when GM changed
there numbers they completely used a different number. GM liked to change
numbers pretty often. They used to tell us at the meetings, that there
was a new manufacture or the part was a new design, it was almost a
gimmick to keep the dealer from returning on the obsolescent program. A
dealer couldn't return a old number.
There is some places that have the old numbers available I can usually
get these at a real bargain price.
If you or any one else is having trouble locating a specific part number
let me know maybe I can be of some help.
