Hi All

I've decided I need to be more committed to the GMC thing so I bought a 1976
Eleganza II, now my banker and insurance broker are sure I need to be
committed.

I went through Gary Thurlows buyers checklist attempting to locate all the
problems so I could negotiate a better deal It was not much help because I
could not find much wrong but I still got a good deal.

Good Stuff:
No body damage except faded paint
Alcoa wheels complete with torque wrench (soon to be new courtesy of Alcoa)
Michelin XPS load range E tires (good for a couple more seasons)
Bilstien Shocks
3 sway bars
recent exhaust
recent windshields
dual Zipdee awnings
new furnace
new SS water heater
newer Norcold 3 way fridge
Ragusa step and transmission pan
Interior is a 8-9, looks new except for tired upholstery and drapes.
NO signs of any water leaks
Original headliner in perfect condition
all manuals and maintenance records since 1990
many GMCMI etc newsletters
spare air bag, jack hook, threaded rod for exploded air bags, and other
parts

Bad stuff:
Very loose and scary steering box (sure keeps you alert on the highway)
rusty bolts on back bumper
Unbelievably faded stripe
Cockpit sliding windows don't slide
Original ball joints (still look good)
Slight whine in final drive.
Dash and cupboard endcaps are beginning to curl up at the edges.
Dana compressor cycles about 4 seconds every few minutes

To Do:
adjust and/or replace steering box
have front end steering and suspension checked
check all brakes and flush brake fluid
6 wheel alignment
fix air leak in air suspension system
replace dash and cupboard ends, upholstery, carpet, drapes, and Corian
counter
new paint
hang out at the auto recycling center looking for rear disk brake parts and
a 3.21 final drive.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for all the good information you all have
contributed it has made the selection process much more comfortable. It is
also good to know this insanity has affected more people than just me.

Congradulations!

Now if you can just avoid the "just another small thing to do - I promise"
syndrome you'll be just fine.

Maybe we should start a GMC support group for GMC-addicts. Never mind. We
already have one ;>
