I have something that none of you have. DO DA, DO DA.

Bob,

SO sorry to hear that! We had a 3' x 80' pine within 10' of the front of
our house taken down last week to prevent such an incident. The yard's in
a mess, but the house won't suffer from THAT one now (there are about 5
more that could reach it though).

Dang Bob, sure didn't need that. Judy and I had a huge Oregon White Oak
taken out earlier this spring. Hung over the house. Turns out, the center
of the tree was rotten. Arborist probed the roots and found it. Big relief.
Hope you did not suffer too much damage, and both are ok.

The tree is a pine. 20 inch trunk, and about 50 ft tall. Not much damage to the house. I've got a Bobcat, and a dump truck. The Bobcat with the pallet forks on it. Can pop the stump out in very short order. And get everything loaded. Then put the tree in my dump truck. Great to have lots of handy toys. Bob Dunahugh

You got nothing I ain't already had - 50 years ago :) We had an oak about 8 feet across the stump come donw the center of the homestead at about 2 in
the morning. I jumped out of bed to run and ran into it in the rainy dark. A case of beer stories, ask me nest time we're at a rally. Hunt through
the Prattville Progress archives from the 60s, there's a picture front page above the fold.

Our boat is stored in a pole barn near our home. Snow load this year collapsed the roof two months ago. Owner final got into the barn about two weeks
ago. No damage to our boat. Whew!!

Can you sell it, or giver it to a sawmill for lumber?

Larry saw what I had taken down. I left the ones that won't hit the house when they fall. All have borers in them. The GMC's pad will stand easily
but I sometimes wonder about the tin hut over it.

Surrounded by 40-50' pines, and mountain pine beetle. Neighbour's have one tall, skinny one that I hope they take down soon (said they were last
year) - dead as a rock and leans toward my house. I keep my fingers crossed in strong winds!

Hope you are OK and will have tall tales to tell around the campfire.

Lucky you, for sure, Larry. We lost our boat (1995 Carver 355 Aft Cabin) on 1 Feb 2011 in a 15" heavy wet snowfall collapse of our Marina in NE Oklahoma.

The tree stories I could tell...

We had about a hundred removed when two of the snapped about 30’ up and the
tops brushed the house on their way down. We had an acre (maybe 200 trees)
removed a couple of years ago to get them away from the driveway. All white
pines, 80’ tall. And worthless—too far from the paper mills to be worth
transporting, and worthless as lumber. For the second batch, we hired an
excavating company, not a tree company. An 85,000-pound Komatsu backhoe can
knock down a pine tree in 30 seconds, and pull the root ball right out of
the ground in another half minute. Much cheaper than tree dudes using
bucket trucks and chain saws.

Two or three fall down every year for one reason or another. With what we
have spent on trees, we could restore a GMC using the standard formula. Or
build the shop I’ve wanted for at least a decade.
