Hello folks,

After a year of unexpected surprises (mostly not good) that kept me from doing ANYTHING on my coach, I am trying to make time to get it on the road
again.

A year and a half ago, I had the timing chain replaced after it had slipped a gear. I was able to drive it the 80 miles from the shop to bottom of my
driveway where it still sits. Due to altitude (I assume) I was able to pull it at a crawl to the bottom of my driveway. It was unable to make it the
last 800 feet in distance and 100 feet in altitude. My home is at 8400' here in the Rockies. I've seen GMCs going over some of the mountain passes,
so I know they can do it. I am assuming it is thanks to EFI or a properly jetted carb.

I have not looked at my coach in a year so I am unsure of the current state of affairs with EFI.

What is the current 'best solution' for our coaches? I have a very busy spring and summer ahead of me with a home wedding and new business venture so
speed of installation is also a consideration. Anyone want to make a few bucks for installation? ;)

I hope that life settles down a bit so I can be chatting with you all more often now!

Good to hear from you, didn't know what was up with you and your coach.

Bob,
There are some universal after-market EFI products out there (Fi-Tech, Holley, Atomic etc). They are designed to be bolt-on with the minimum of wiring
by putting the Electronic Control Module (ECM) in the throttle body. That's nice for least amount of wiring and speed of installation. But I can tell
you (45 yrs experience in electronics) that electronic components do not like heat. In the GMC that puts them on top of the engine and when you pull
off the interstate to get gas, its gets very hot up there. I've read a few accounts of no-start after fuel-up.

They also do not give you Electronic Spark Control (ESC) and Knock control which is what really wakens up the engine's performance. I'm not sure if
they do Lean Cruise (LC) or Deceleration Fuel Cut-Off (DFCO), maybe one of the other guys knows about that.

They are also proprietary in design so if anything goes wrong while on the road, there are no locally available parts or service, you must return it
to the manufacturer for service. So you pretty much need a spare unit or carry your carb to re-install.

I have Howell/EBL system which uses GM parts available just about anywhere. The EBL upgrade gives the system self-learning and the ability to add
ESC, Lean Cruise, DFCO and other features. I carry my original Howell ECM for a spare along with a spare injector and an ESC ignition module. I also
just finished replacing the fuel selector valve with dual fuel pumps. I think I can fix just about any issue with it while on the road. It uses a
reliable, time proven GM ECM which is mounted inside away from engine heat (usually under the passenger seat). But this also means more wiring harness
and more time to install.
