Hydro-boost

Manny, You might want to look into HydroMax. Same idea as HydrpBoost, but has an electric pump, in addition to the power steering pump power. That way if the engine fails, you have more that the 1 or two stops that the hydroboost accumulator gives you. I have the HydroMax on my Ford F53 chassis SOB

Hey, Manny,

Great to hear from you after TOO long!

I've had the hydroboost installed for about 5+ years now (including a
couple of idle years with Covid pandemic). I've never achieved anything
like the sensitivity Bob Stone does, without knowing why, so I'm of no help
to you (I'm considering going back to a metric vacuum booster with a 2-step
MC if my 85 yo body ever agrees).

At any rate, I'm glad to hear from you and require you to give Deo a hug
for me!

Hurry and keep that promise to bring her to visit us!

Ken H.

Terry,

I like that idea too; Wally did it recently:

Thanks Terry and Ken, I have Wally on speed dial so I'll give him a call.
I acquired Bob Cook's coach and he installed the hydro-boost with the help
of Hans. They both passed away but Hans was a machinist by trade and had
perfected the hydro-boost (he claimed and i believed him)
The problem is that Bob stored the coach very close to the ocean so very
rusted. I have the unit all apart but some of the parts need replacing.

Manny do you have a power steering pulley for your system.?
I used a Dorman pulley for a 5.0L Olds motor. Same size as the pen one. I had to change my pump as it was a 1973 and used a nut to hold the pulley on, the new pump was press on. You will want to make sure that the flow valve is for a flare, not O ring.
On my Jeep project I built my own hoses . All reusable fittings.
What master cylinder are you planning on using?

He installed a P30. I want to replace it .He teed off the steering pump
line and I want to use Ken electric wipers setup so I have to replace that
too.
What I'm most interested in is the brake bar. I thought the bracket for the
hydro-boost had to be moved. This one seems original.
The steering pump has the press pulley.
As a side note, the engine was fuel injected. He had the aluminum intake
drilled for the rail injectors. Pretty neat setup but I couldn't get it to
run because of the rust issue.

I had a 1982 Grumman step van on a p-30 chassis, with power steering and hydroboost. As delivered to Grumman, the power steering and the hydroboost were plumbed in series, with the hydroboost closest to the pump, plumbing wise, with the drain side of the hydroboost going to the power steering unit. No tees.
