I checked last night and the press I bought from Northern Hydraulics is a
Wel-Bilt(I'm not making this up) Model 14590, 12 ton press. The
footprint is approx. 20" X 20". It came disassembled in two boxes and is
basically a bolted-together frame of steel channel with a 12 ton bottle
jack. IIRC, the cost was in the $80-90 range.

The only nit I had with the press as shipped was that it came with 4 five
inch long 12mm bolts to fasten the upper end of the frame together. This
didn't make for a very solid assembly as the long bolts "pinched" together
the open side channels. I replaced them with 8 1 1/2 inch long bolts which
was a great improvement.

Patrick,
Thanks for taking the time to find this out for me. You got a good deal!
The current price for the 12 ton benchtop press #14590 is $119.99.

IIRC, it was on sale. Also, it's not a benchtop press, so it may have been
a closeout deal and was replaced by the smaller model.

Patrick,
The press I was looking at in the catalog was a floor model and not
a bench top. At any rate I think I'll order one. I have to replace some
bearings in my tractor's mower deck before the grass starts growing here
and they "pressed" in the housing. I probably won't get to the GMC
studs for a long time but at least I will save money when I need to do
that ;-)

Manny,
Great suggestion and timely pictures! I think I'll do that.

Now I also know where to break down if I'm in my GMC and anywhere
within 300 miles or so of San Jose, California ;-)
