Hydraulic brake booster

All this talk of vacuum assist pumps and sensitized break boosters reminded
me of something. Something about using the hydraulic brake booster off of a
diesel Cadillac to replace the vacuum booster on the GMC's. I am wondering
if anyone out there has tried this approach and what kind of results they got.

That subject was discussed here last fall. There are a few people I'm aware
of, that are using the hydroboost system, which is what you're talking
about. I believe their claim to fame is that you can obtain higher brake
line pressures vs. the standard master cylinder. I believe that all of the
GM large car diesel engine applications of the late 70's up to mid 80's used
the hydroboost system for brakes. It obtains hydraulic pressure off the
power steering pump.

One drawback is if the power steering belt breaks, you're out of brakes. Of
course, with the auxiliary brake system, you'll have some degree of limited
braking capability.
