A word of advice....when looking at a gmc to buy, always check for frame rust first....if frame rust is bad the gmc may be unable to acquire a safety certificate...unless repaired first for big bucks.....frame rust can occur a lot in Canada on 40+ tr vechicle....particularly those that have lived in eastern Canada....brian 77 ele near winnipeg

Hi Ken. I have never been one to turn away from a decent drive (or flight as the case may be). Sorry to hear about your buddy in kamloops, but Yes,
seeing it from the ground around here is nice. Flying over-head is a great vista, but the mountains are nice to ride through. Have never done the
ride to Lytton - I have 400 Burgman scooter that I will likely take out on more trips next summer and may head up that way - need to find a way to
transport it on whatever GMC I end up adopting - either as a toad on a small utility trailer or with a dolly wheel to keep it from making the GMC pull
a wheelie!

If you know of a good coach I am most definitely open to hearing about it! A 2-3 day run back would be the perfect shake-down cruise!

Thanks for thinking of me, and for all of the help - you guys are awesome!

Deb

Thanks Brian - I have seen that caveat a couple of times. I suppose that with the rest of it aluminum & fibreglass, there has to be somewhere we have
to check for rust. Otherwise what's a Canadian to do on a vehicle hunt?! Eh? ;) I'm originally from S . Ontario - big time rust there. Had a car
once that the only thing holding the bottom of door together was the paint!

Ha....Everything is available for these motorhomes... including new frames

You may consider contacting a fellow Canadian....our Canadian gmc guru...Dick Patterson Springfield Ignition....Ontario...He will be glad to continue a pursuit of GMC's to help you. You need to phone him after getting his phone number from the internet.

> Ha....Everything is available for these motorhomes... including new frames...
Frame itself might be "affordable" (is $2,000 USD affordable?). Installed, material and labor will be more than the GMC itself is worth.

IIRC, a precut and drilled "kit" used to be on the order of $2,000 USD. Dan Stuckey was (is?) in Canada, sold the "kits" and installed them. Labor was
somewhere between 80 and 120 hours. If he charges the standard $80 - $100 per hour, it is going to be upwards of $3200 for labor. Add the $2,000 for
the frame itself, and your in for over $5,000. Add to that the cost of getting your GMC to and from Dan and...

Generally, if one has a rusted frame, it is a parts unit. Not worth repairing. If you are not looking for a parts donor, walk away.

Hi Deb

I bought mine in St. Louis after flying to Texas and Florida to look at coaches. That exercise saved me a lot more than the 1800 I spent on airfare.
As for importing the coach in to Canada it was an easy process. Get the best you can afford that will let you use it right away cosmetics can be
cleaned up while you are using it. Mine still has ugly paint from when it was painted by the PO in 1995 I bought it in 2002 and have put 140000 miles
on it since

Happy to hear that. I am not "house proud" (my mother could have told you that!) - as long as it works and isn't falling apart or off the wall, I am
OK with interior cosmetics (except for that green on green on green that was in Calgary - although I could have lived with it) - I can paint and
cover, and drill & build things if need be (hell - I can even sew if desperate :) ) But I don't want to stretch my budget right to it's limit to
purchase, and then have no buffer. The pension won't be huge so I need to keep something of a nest egg (for repairs more likely!). I really need to
keep this under $15K Cdn (closer to $12K would be better). I want to enjoy it, not spend every minute wondering if I made a good decision and
worrying about $. I spent too many years living on the edge of my budget, with absolutely no money to spare to want to do that into my retirement
too.

If nothing has come to me by summer, I will be able to perhaps do some hopping around by plane after lining up some possibles. Can't do anything till
spring though - students keep you tied down September to April.

Thanks Brian - I will definitely do that!

Well... Did it.. Found my coach. Although I won't be able to bring her up here till spring - not enough time to move her till the students are done,
and by then it's mid-winter in the BC mountains x( . So, it looks like April (maybe March if the weather takes a nice turn for me!)
Off the frame restore/reno, so many updates and upgrades, '77 Kingsley 403, wet-bath.

My thanks to everyone for their input, advice and suggestions. Hope to run into you on the road (not literally!) over the next few years. Cheers.

Congrats! Glad you finally found the one. Sounds like a twin to Elvis. Love to see pics.

Not certain if this will work. Let me post the reply and I'll find out :) This is from the seller. Haven't got any of my own. Haven't even seen
her yet! Adopted her based on some VERY high, solid recommendations. Too good to pass up, and since I can't do any travelling at the drop of a hat
(work & weather & a house full of critters!) I did the unimaginable.

You can't imbed an image. The administrator has set the size too low.

You can imbed a LINK (URL) in a post using the IMG feature. I recommend posting your pictures to the photo site ( http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/ )
and then linking as described in the sticky ( http://gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforum/index.php?t=msg&th=31075&start=0&rid=0 )

Very clean looking coach. Now you need to find a suitable name! Where did you find it?

Out of Washington. Still haven't got her. Won't be till spring :( No time and winter weather prohibit getting her up here.

Naming will wait until I have a chance to get to know her better.

Deb,

That is the idea. She knows her name already if you ask and she doesn't say but you have an idea, ask her if she likes yours. Some are shy.

Oh, and welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.... (Just in case I didn't say that before.)

I hope you know that being the keeper of a GMC brings into a community like few others. This is why a GMC is not just another toy. Because of the
community of amazing supporting and helping people, she will be a wonderful part of your life. Because this is a community so much like that of the
watermen of my world, I have taken to welcoming new owners much as a new owner or vessel is welcomed there. Even though she is not coming home real
soon, this still should be. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Deb.

Matt

Thank you Matt! I have felt very welcome by everyone I have encountered - support & assistance like I would never have anticipated, and had yet to
experience before this. You don't have to be crazy, but it helps ;)

I very much look forward to meeting many on the road in the future. My travels will likely keep me in Canada for the first couple of summers (not
retired YET!) but I do have a couple of folks already that I want to touch base with up here.
Once retirement hits in 2 more years, I expect I will see much more of the warmer climes of the US in the winter, and have a lot more roaming time to
experiment with during the summer months too!

Regarding her name... I will let her tell me when she's ready, once we get to know each other.
