Don't know if this is of any interest to anyone but thought I would pass it
along. Had the o2 sensor fail yesterday. System is bout three years old.
I was just rolling along and check engine light comes on and the air/fuel
ratio meter went dead. This more or less let me know right away there was
no output from the o2 sensor. The system just went to open loop and the
engine never knew anything was wrong. Replaced o2 today and all is well.

I thought if all of us who are running the HOWELL system reported all
failures here on the net we all may benefit from each others experiences.

Have you done anything like changing gaskets ? RTV ?

No changes or tinkering at all. Just all of a sudden.

Mr.c lost one a couple of years back this way. I guess it is not uncommon
on any system. One comment was, that "we always change the O2 sensors
then trouble shoot for other problems.

On my trip to Rayne last Feb. my GMC started to backfire and I could
tell by my TBI light that something was wrong with the fuel system.
(the older Holley TBI system uses a light that is on when rich and
off when lean -- it blinks on and off when the mixture is right). The
first thing I did was to change out the O2 sensor since I had one go
bad before with similar indications. I found that it was not the O2
sensor but then discovered it was the electronic module in the
distributor.

Either of these parts can suddenly start to go bad for no apparent
reason. Not a bad idea to carry spares.
