I have been trying to locate people who have installed the throtle body
fuel injection system kit on their GMC as sold by Howell Engine
Developemts, Inc. of Marine City, MI. They have advertised in GMCMM and
their sales brochure and website http://www.howell-efi.com promises a
better running coach than the stock Quadrajet can deliver. I understand
that Donald Denney is one person who can provide feedback on this
system. Are there any others and does any one else have an opinion? As
I research what I could do to fix my carb.'s fuel enrichment problem
(black sooty esxhaust when secondaries kick in), I feel I ought to also
check out the fuel injection option as well. I'd certainly appreciate
hearing from any one who knows about the Howell System.

Phil,

I can't help you with the Howell Fuel Injection, but I'm curious about
your carb problems. Is it the original QuadraJet? Is the over-rich
condition a recent development? Did any alterations/maintenance
immediately precede the problem?

If you can supply some details, maybe we can help. The much maligned
Q-Jet is actually pretty reliable when properly maintained.

Hi Phil:

One individual I know installed the Howell throttle body 0n a 73 GMC
with a 455 ci engine a couple years ago. That is Dick Crawford from
Vicksburg MI, which is 10 miles S of Kalamazoo. Unfortunately, they do
not have e-mail capability.

Originally, he installed it to try to improve gas mileage (believe he
claimed they averaged 5-6 mpg on a trip). It was my understanding that
there wasn't too much improvement. Also believe Dick told me that
although you could start the engine without having to touch the
accelerator pedal when it was cold, hot starts were difficult.

Recommend you call (616-649-1967) him, usually after 8 PM ET, for his
experiences. I know that last year, he installed a new chip in the
computer system.
