I recently took Onan's flywheel off to replace a starter bracket. Now I'm having trouble getting the flywheel to re-seat. Tried using a wood block and hammer to tap it back on but it's still 1/2" from where it needs to be.
From memory, it has been a few years since I removed one. That shaft is a tapered shaft with a key in it. That key has to line up with the slot inside the flywheel. The flywheel should slide on easily with the shaft and key. Install the nut and torque it as per the spec, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN that nut. If you don,it will crack the flywheel right where the slot for the keyway is located. DO NOT USE AN IMPACT on that nut.
