Hello: forgive me I am new two ways one is the computer itself and the
other to the GMC net. so I have 10 thumbs and tow left feet. As each
volume number comes in I just print it out and read at a latter time.
Then I punch holes in the pages for loose leaf filing and try to file
under the topic for a road reference. This is fine but there is a
tremendous amount of repeat, duplication etc in each of the 21 pages of
info. I am only getting about 6 to 8 pages of new information. Now
having said all of this is there a way with my computer or with the net
that the duplication can be reduced. It seems as every time someone
gives a suggestion that all other suggestions and the original question
appears numerous times. Just looking for a way of reducing reading and
redundant information. Can you help me. thanks

Tommy,
There is an option in your email setup which will allow you to chose not to
send the copy of the original letter along with your reply message. In
order to eliminate the problem, everyone on the net would have to select
this option on their own computers. If you need help with doing this to
your computer, then email me direct and I'll give you instructions on how to
do it.

This would also make Sandy's task much easier of compiling information from
the list.

Tommy,

The problem is more with the fact that you're reading the "digest". Those
on the "real-time" list need the "quoted" sections to maintain continuity.
That said, there's still plenty we could all do to "trim" the "quotes" -
that is, reduce the amount of unnecessary material that's left from the
message you're replying to.

This would create a new problem of not being able to figure out which
message the sender is replying to. Too little information is worse than too
much! "Responsible quoting" is the correct answer.

Tommy cut out the parts you do not want to save from each message.

Tommy, I don't know a way to weed out the duplication, but what I do, is
read the messages and copy any information I want to keep and paste it into
a word file that is organized into subjects. It works well for me, and
doesn't wear out my printer.

Tommy, I suggest you look at Henry Davis home page (www.henry-davis.com/GMC/) and look in Sandy Davis' "GMC Mail List Summarized" for a great job of categorizing information. Thanks Sandy!

Richard,
Not sure if specific enough, but have a peek at www.bytedesigns.com/gmc and
in particular http://www.bytedesigns.com/gmc/four-bag.htm. Unless you've
already been there of course :-)
