how much grease needed?

Getting the gal out from winter and will be doing my first lube on everything. Going with a high pressure synthetic grease but - how much will I need
to get the job done? I want to get this round covered as well as have some for the road. I'd hate to get part way through the job and run out. But
also don't want to get a tonne more than I will need.
I will be heading out on a fairly lengthy trip mid June, and want to bring back-ups of several things. Grease included. How many tubes will I need
to start with, and how many would you pack along?

I would buy two full size tubes of grease. You have 17 grease points to lube. Or more depending on the amount of upgraded parts you might have. You
could easily use 1/2 tube of grease on your first pass. Don't forget to use a spray lube on your rubber bushings, etc.
People like the valvoline synpower and/or Mobile 1.

I would say you could get 4 greasings done easilly with a full size tube of Synpower.
With a typical one handed opperation gun, I would go 3 pumps in the rod end type joints and steering shaft lower U joint, maybe 4 in the balljoints
and intermediate slip joint and relay, and 6 or more in the 4 rear bogies. The only type you can overgrease is the sealed type boot with no weep hole.
Watch for these to start to slightly swell and stop there. Some joints will flow freely at the dust boot. Watch for nasty rusted old grease to come
out and stop at fist sign of fresh lube exiting. What I do. Depending what parts have been upgraded you may have more fittings than the manual
undicates-- 2 add'l at idler, 1 add'l at relay and possibly 8 instead of 4 in back.

And be sure you have a 12" flex hose extension on your gun or many fittings won't be accesssble up front.

Thanks Scott/John. Heading out to Lordco today to pick up lube, oil & filter. Neighbour has a grease gun (3 actually - he's a garage sale junkie
when it comes to tools!) but I'll pick one up anyway. And the PO made a number of upgrades to the front & rear (there are little yellow caps all over
the place )

Ok, so now I'm interested in doing this too since I've had some troubles with getting some mechnic stuff done around here. Jim K got me in the "I'm
doing it my dam self because I want it dine right" well I hope LOL. Anywho is there a list of things to look for or is this listed in the manuals?,
(got a set).
