At the GMCMI event. A bunch of us setting at the LIERS table. We got to discussing the number of cars in Dennis Alsbaugh's collection. Then someone mentioned. That's a lot of working pistons. Well. Just for fun. I just counted up my working pistons. I've got 160. Entertaining way to look at it. Bob Dunahugh

Maybe you want to include your master cylinder, wheel cylinders and calipers. Or even your air conditioning compressor!

Bob,

There is an actual "Gearhead" calculation. If you own more cylinders than your age, you are a Gearhead. I was one for years. I have downsized by 12
and don't get close.

Don't know about a compressor. I think it was intended to be engine cylinders. But we must remember chainsaws, lawnmowers, outboards, etc. Remember,
most GMCs are 10 cylinders. Can't forget the Onan.

Time was I used to enjoy telling people that I had only a dozen spark plugs, and that was for three cars, two motorcycles, a lawn mower and a
chainsaw.

The discussion was on engine piston. Never thought about those other pistons we use. Bob Dunahugh

We had this discussion years ago on GMCnet. The standard was “internal
combustion cylinders” and the threshold was age.

I currently have 46, below the threshold by far. But those 46 seem to keep
me busy enough.

We’re it not for the internal combustion part, I could add 20 more
pistons—on various tubas and air compressors. Somehow I don’t think that
counts.

Cars/trucks only I am currently at 66... + 10 "Rotors" on my Mazda Wankel engined vehicles... Also 5 Turbos, but no superchargers.

Another fun thing to look at is what engine "configurations" do you own?

I have inline 4, V6, V8, V10, 2 Rotor, + an inline 4 and V8 Diesels...

Never owned any sort of boxer engine, inline 3, 5, 6 or a V12....

If you have an Onan you have a boxer.
