Bob,
That 46+ year old plastic is virtually impossible to remove without
breaking it. The aluminum longitudinal member has a groove along its top
and bottom sides, on each side of the wiring chase. The molding wraps
around the top and bottom sides into flanges which fit into those two
grooves. To remove the molding one of the flanges must be lifted out of
its groove. That movement, if you can figure out how to initiate it,
flexes the face of the molding between the flanges. At its age,
essentially all of the plasticizer has migrated out into the atmosphere,
leaving behind only egg shell. Good luck. (Reinstalling it requires
re-flexing the face, generally completing the fracture.)
There's supposedly a Panduit(?) conduit which substitutes pretty well, if
you can find it.
Time for you to devise a good substitute for everyone.
