Dear Team GMC,

I need some help with house electrical system. Our =9176 GMC was up on
blocks for 3 weeks and was not run. The house batteries died even
though I was plugged in to 120V. Even with GMC plugged in to 120V, no
12V items worked! Now it looks like I can run engine and I get a
charge to rear batteries. I do not think the converter is getting 12V
to the rear batteries or, in fact, to the house. So... where do I
start?? What do I check???

TIA

Team GMC,

I need some help with house electrical system. Our 76 GMC was up on

12V items worked! Now it looks like I can run engine and I get a

More info added to previous message...
Looked at converter. I think it was putting out 13.0 Volts (at the
converter). I then disconected house batteries and tested leads and it
read 8.3 Volts. I presume (Hmmm) that 13V should be read at the house
batteries (but I am not sure). I also am not sure if some isolator is
isolating when it shouldent!

TIA

I dropped a flashunit on a camera once, It used two AA batterys.
I opened the case to fix a cracked pc board. touched two solder
pads below a capacitor, threw me across the room and burned
two of my fingertips, I mean cooked them,BLACK blistered
round spots on the tips. Discharge those caps guys.

Thanks to Rick, Gene, Duane and all others who gave suggestions for the
lack of charging the house batteries. The problem was bad ground
contacts! Cleaning these seems to have us back and running! I also
found that my converter is only rated to put out max 13 volts so when
on shore power, I do not get a hugh charge!!?? Much higher with engine
charging.

Thanks again,

TIA,
Disconnect the power converter from the fuse input bar and read its output
when plugged into shore power. If you have no voltage, check to be sure
the receptical the converter is plugged into is hot. If so, the converter
has become a boat anchor!

If your tests show good, work your way up the fuse block.

Hope this helps,
