Simple fix. Store the dipstick in another place.

Harold Kennedy taught me to tie a plastic tube inside below the hoods across
the front as a scabbard. It's always cool to the touch and only moderately
warm after use. Use a ~5/16 bolt to plug dipstick tube between uses.

This is just another good reason to check the lube oil level before starting
up in the morning. If you have to check it when the coach has been
running a while have a really thick rag as the dip stick (lube oil level
indicator) can come out of the tube just at a temperature that is just below
incandescence. (Do I have to add - BTDT)

Billy,

What a genuinely neat idea.
This should be published and promoted.

I never had any problem until my engine broke a ring land. Up until then, the morning lube oil check was just a pre-flight formality.
