Jim:
Two individuals who were at Forest City had Generac generators installed,
same as the one Heinz W has. Also, same as Heinz, one of them is using an
exhaust system (Blue Streak F-18) from Allied Mfg. Inc., Benicia California.
I heard it running and in my opinion, it's definitely quieter running with
the compartment door open or closed, when standing nearby it, than the Onan.
However, I didn't make any sound measurements for comparison sake.
Maybe we could take some sound measurements at the next GMCMI convention in
Rayne LA to document the two That should be interesting and eliminate
subjective guessing like I'm saying above??? Anyone have access to any
sound measurement devices that they could bring to Rayne for such testing
use??
Sound in the interior of the coach is going to be variable. Some
compartments (do I understand it right that all GMC interiore'd coach's??)
have the side, back, and overhead walls covered with soundproofing material.
At least the one mentioned above that I heard running, did. Other generator
enclosure's may be covered on the interior of the coach with carpeting, bed,
etc., which will affect sound transmittal and interior level's.

Paul,
Cool, I tell you those guys really blow out stuff like that some times.
Many times I tell customers to pick up things like refers, roof AC units,
microwaves, etc. on sale with their $5 install. Just be sure to check the
install.
I do not have any first hand knowledge on the Generac so I am not a good
judge of the Honda to Generac noise ratio. I do know the Honda works well
and I intend on putting it through its paces to see its repiability.
You know I am always open for ideas.

I'm told that Camping World sells the Generac for $2000 on sale.

I have been pretty pleased with the 6K Honda in the dumpster. It worked
flawlessly to and from the rally, of course it is new and I would expect
nothing less.
I have been told that the Generac is quieter, I would like to compare first
person. I would also say though that while certainly being a factor in
generator selection, I looked at the fact that a water cooled unit and the
reputation of Honda with small engines. Usually, the Honda lawn mowers and
similar stuff is more expensive than other air cooled units. The Honda
generators are priced very reasonable (@ $2600.00 for the basic 6K unit).
Time will tell if this was a wise selection and I am most interested it the
outcome. I intend on punishing my unit and see how much it will take, I'll
let you know how it holds up.
