Honda has a new generator

I see this spring Honda has upgraded and is making a 2200 watt generator. 1db less then the current 2000 model

Now my atwood A/C unit spec saya 11 amps on high. But in testing it never spiked over 10 on start up and was running at 7.xx amps.

Testing I did on a 2000 honda made the generator work, but was near max load and was revved up and I felt that would use up the gas too fast and
probably not good for long term.

Now is another 200 watts outs my a/c load at less the 70%.

I was originally looking at the yamaha 2400 and I have tested that generator on my coach and it worked well. It is slightly heavier and costs
slightly more then this new honda 2200.

Again, this is not intended to be mounted in the coach, but I prefer to run a cors and put the generator away from the coach and have the least noise
I can get.

Thoughts? Is 70% load going to suck the fuel tank dry in less then 8 hours?

Hey Jon,

I've sold a ton of Honda and Yamaha gensets and I only ever had one person complain about fuel consumption. I don't know about the new 2200 because I
am out of the business, but the 2000 would run close to 4 hours at rated load. I expect the 2200 would run your A/C for at least 5-6 hours on a tank,
maybe more (depending on outside temp). That puts your fuel use around 0.15g to 0.2g an hour which is far better than I'm getting (EV4010 ~ 0.66g/hr),
not to mention a lot quieter.

I am not concerned about fuel consumption in terms of quantity or cost. I am more concerned with re-fueling. Leaving the coach for the day and
coming back to a cool coach, not a empty gas tank and a hot coach because it ran out of fuel.

My issue is I really do not like dealing with gas cans. I know you can hook up an aux tank to them as well. But space is very limited to carry
those things. Currently I borrow a 3000is honda, but that sucker is heavy and hard to stow. But it holds plenty of fuel and burns little fuel, so
It seems i can run the thing as much as I choose and do not worry about re-fuelling.

I think 8-10 hours of running without re-fuelling is where i want to be.

Have a look at Harbor Freight's 3500 Watt unit for under 600 bucks. They claim 8 hours run time.
Ill note, both the Ryobni and Honda 2KW sets look nearly identical, and botgh are built on the Pacific Rim, neither in Japan.

9 hours at 50% run time. 57dB A scale at load. Substantially quieter than the one I fitted to the 23' coach, but it wasn't a great problem... the
A/C fan made more nopise. I used double isolators of different sizes in the mount, so vibration wasn't a great problem. The set ran whenever I hit
the crank switch over the couple of years I had the coach.

The gensets are kind of like cars - the hoi polloi of makers have pretty much caught up with the Gold Standards in terms of operation and reliability.
The H-F stuff looks to be put together by 'assemblers'. I see the same engines in many different makers' sets. I suspect if I knew the original
builder, the same would be true of the alternator. Variance in features seems to be confined to the stuff the assembler can bolt on - starters,
outlets, etc.

I have been scarred dealing with small engines. I just will nOt buy the harbor freight one.

Anyhow they have that 3000 watt that looks like a clone of the honda 3000is. I can borrow one of those about anytime I need and they hold enough gas
and run super quiet(i personally think the 3000 is quieter the 2000). But they are heavy and hard to haul.

The harbor freight one may work, but I have had way too many issues with small engine issues. Have had honda's and yamaha's at work for years and
they always work. Worst case is bad gas, and a quick drain of the carb has brought the one honda back to life. Other briggs and straton or
craftsman and one harbor freight it takes a replacemt of the carb.

I am spoiled with the honda 3000is, that i can borrow, but I may slip a disk lifting it. And it really does not store very well.

I had a really BAD experience with cheap inverter generators about 8 years ago. I bought a Honeywell 2K generator and used it at Quartzsite. It
seemed to work fine for most of the trip, but wouldn't put out any power by the end of the week. It was replaced under warranty, and the second one
conked out after about 30 or so hours, after the warranty period was up.

When my son wanted to buy a HF Predator 2K inverter gen for the company, I was reluctant, but told him to go ahead, and to buy the extended warranty
just in case. He has been using it quite a lot ever since (close to a year) and it has performed flawlessly. I'm quite sure it would not power
either of my original AC units and maybe not yours either. I would guess the Honda would run your Atwood no problem since a 2K does, but for how
long? I don't know what to tell you. I'm guessing it would not be running very efficiently at that load.

Do they possibly make an auxiliary fuel tank attachment for them?

I am more questioning the brand new 2200 watt honda. As compared to the 2000 watt. The 2000 watt juat is not enough imho. But it is close!

I would be happy with a 2400 yamaha they make. I have seen that in action. But this 2200 is still smaller, lighter and a few hundred bucks less.

Same goes for Honda 50's or Generators. Air Cleaner filter elements,

I guess that explains my experience last week: We broke some of the
plastic clips holding the grille on the front of the '14 CRV. Visually
identical replacements, delivered in 2 days from a US supplier, cost $9.95
for 15 of them. The same quantity under the Honda brand were $89.95.

About like drug pricing.

I've an acquaintance - roofing contractor. He ran Hondas side by side with the chinese sets, and now simply buys whichever chinese set is
cheapest - harbor, Craftsman, whatever, all of which mount the same engine. He says they run as well as the Hondas for half the money and last as
long. His run all day five days a week. He services them each evening because as he says, his workers are paid by the square, and consequently don't
pay any attention to the generator unless it quits.

I would never doubt that. You run an engine it will last. I find problems with the cheap engines come up when they sit. Maybe better winterizing
helps, but who knows. I have seem problems with properly winterized engine.

where i live, things can sit. Ice fisherman park the generators all summer. my splicers park there generarors in the winter. Hondas, onans and
yamahas always seem to start up. I can only remember bringing odd ball brad generators over to our shop to get them going. Cannot think of a honda
or yamaha that has failed us. We have 7-10 at work? Been dealing with our fiber splicers for 10-12 years now?

Real Honda stuff, not the look alikes, are very high quality. But, their
Kehin carbs are crapola. Never, never, leave gasoline in one more than a
few days. The float bowl will return to the ores of the metal they
originated from. A trick small engine shops sometimes use is to mix a bit
of 2 stroke oil in the gas. That is not a cure all, but it cuts down on the
corrosion a bit. Best to run them, turn off the fuel, and run them WITHOUT
LOAD until they quit. Shelf life of modern gasoline is about 90 days or
less. Let that be your guide.
