Holley number HOL 0-80508S 750cfm E/Chk
I also have a listing on the receipt for a carb plate
Edelbrock part number EDE 2732.
I was mistaken to say it was a double pumper it is actually a Vacuum
secondaries carb but is adaptable to a double pumper by changing the
spring in the secondaries to a lighter spring. I believe the adapter
plate you are talking about Patrick is something which is needed for a
chevy manifold. Edelbrock makes their manifolds to accept a Carter
footprint which the Holley 80508S has. This adapter which I have is
about 1/8" thick and acts more as a sealing gasket than any thing else.
Patrick have you checked for this particular series of Holley? Hope this
helps. Darren

Darren,

The adaptor plate is to block the manifold opening down to a square bore
pattern. All Q-jets have the same pattern. I recently "discovered" these
plates while browsing the Summit Racing web site. They might also be
helpful for the TBI injection conversion.

Darren,

The main "problem" that I've run into is with the stock manifold's
interference with the throttle linkage. If I were going with an aftermarket
manifold, it'd be a piece of cake(well almost).

The carb cost me $400.00, Manifold $400.00, adapter plate $10.00. All Canadian.
$540.00 US. I would be happy to ship it all to you. Price plus shipping. Under
$600 US. Pretty cheap. Darren

According to Holley (not Hoyle) when you do decide to choose a carb, the
calculations are as follows:

(cubic inches)/2) X (Maximum RPM/1728) X VE = CFM

Where VE is the Volumetric efficiency of the engine (ability to fill the
cylinder completely). For a street engine that should be 70-75% vs 80-85 for a
racer.

Thus:

(455/2) X (4500 RPM/1724) X .75 = 227.5 x 2.6 x .75 = 442 CFM.

The book goes on to say that "bigger is not better" (except in certain types of
movies). "When and enging is over-carbureted it will have poor throttle
response, bog and hesitate at low speeds and worn start to run very well untill
very high rpm. Fuel economy and emissions will be poor."

I ran some different numbers 5500 rpm (not in my coach, thank you) and come out
with 539 cfm. Since we are trying to keep our babies running for a while,
figuring this high doesnt seem to make sense. Driveability and gas mileage seem
to me to be two factors that weigh heavily in my decisions....besides, mine came
with the 650 cfm carb and I am cheap!

Hope this helps. By the way, any attempt to identify me as an expert can be
quickly rebuffed by Julie.

Thanks for the offer, but the idea right now is to "temporarily" replace the
Qjet with as few other changes as possible.

lets see if you sell your quadra jet for $400 and this $800 and you are up
to the cost of a TBI with all the required parts supplied. No more tuning
for crappy gas..

No Gene. That is sell the QJ for 400 and upgrade for 600. A net cost of 200.
Some of us just like Carburetors. Darren

No you don't like carbs, you are just more comfortable with them, but if
you buy a new car...... you are never going to see a carb and in fact that
20 year old tech, is getting hard to get...

I'm not old enough to be comfortable with anything. If I had the 1700 to buy a FI
system I would have. It came down to dollars and cents for me. What mileage are
you getting and how long would I have to drive to save enough to have paid for the
system. I know all new stuff has FI on them and I will probably never see anything
newer than 5-7 years on my driveway anyway. :( With my new Holley I can cold
start quickly, I bet as fast as you with FI. Bet ya beers next rally. It still was
money which was the deciding factor and I do agree it would be a really nice to
have upgrade but not a need to have upgrade at this point. Darren
