I was thinking about the fact that the GM frame is a multi piece frame.
That is, a
rear section bolted to the main straight rails and a front section which
is also
bolted to the main rails. With an equalizer, does this stress the frame?

I built my hitch similar to the "through the bumper" hitch advertised in
GMC publications. After we finished the cross supports and were ready to
test the hitch, we slid a 10' long piece of channel into the reciever and
I stood on the end. Try this and you'l be surprised at the results.
Have a friend do this while you lay under the rear and watch the frame.
In any case, I can't believe tongue weight is much of a factor when
towing on all four wheels. I use a Metro (manual trans) as a toad and
it's a bit spooky because I can't tell if it's there or not. The first
time I towed was at night and I was so nervous/concerned that I had the
wife look out the back & check every once in a while to see if it was
still there.
I realize that this doesn't answer your question but the hitch I built
is very similar to the one I've seen advertised and one of the claims is
that it xfers some weight to the leading rear wheels.If it does, it does,
if it doesn't though, you couldn't prove it by me.
