If you guys are going to all the trouble to drop the pan to install an oil
pump Why not consider a set of rod and main bearings at the same time. I
can't tell you how many times I saved an old Ford Flathead from the junk
yard. All it takes is time and some plastagauge. At 100,000 miles most of
the wear is in the bearing and the crank wear is negligible. Changing the
bearings at this time will bring the clearances back within tolerances. The
engine in my rig is at 130,000 miles and has never been apart. My plan is to
Drop the pan and check mine out, then you guys started talking about timing
chains. The list never ends.
