In the past, a trick I have used on Olds and Chevy engines when I needed to
get a little extra life out of them was to install a larger displacement
oil pump. When the engine wears its usually not the oil pump that causes
low oil pressure. The clearances get bigger allowing more oil to flow. That
causes the pressure to drop which increases wear making the clearances even
larger and so on till something breaks.
What I am wondering...
Is there a high performance oil pump avalable for the 455 and how much
trouble it to drop the pan and change the oil pump?
My experience has been that I get an extra 40+ thousand miles out of an
engine by keeping the pressure higher. Granted, its a small sample but in
all three cases I wore the rings out rather than throwing a rod or spinning
a bearing.
Just a thought...
