Hello dear GMC friends, I am a german GMC fan. Not the shortest distance;) I'm looking for a GMC Motorhome in really good condition and original
interior in the 70's style. Most loved model Palm Beach. I'm happy about every tip for a GMC. And maybe someone has experience with Gmc export to
Germany? Best regards from Berlin, Arne

There are quite a few people that have imported GMC MotorHomes to
Germany. The more successful people did fly over to check them out
before buying... I looked at three (and flew to all of them to the US),
and bought the third when I bought my first GMC. The 2nd one (that is
now in the Germany), I did buy on my first trip.

If you have any specific questions, shoot.

A few questions from me to you beforehand:

* How much money do you want to spent total?
* How much work do you want to do on it?

And last but not least, a note: for the German TüV you need to rebuild
the whole propane stuff, so it doesn't help you a bit, if someone did
just install a new 3-way fridge.

Running with 120V appliances is not really a worthwhile thing to do
(there are exceptions, but not really helpful), so a new replaced house
A/C won't help you anything either.

Make sure to get a good frame, a working drive train including recently
replaced fuel stuff and brake stuff. And decide whether you want to
spend money buying or fixing it (or let someone else in GErmany fix it
for you).

Hi Peer, that's great that you have responded so quickly to my post. Very good tips. Unfortunately, does not read well. Have asked for German Tüv.
The conversion costs +/- 15,000 euros. Plus 5,000 shipping plus taxes ... That will probably be too expensive. I was hoping for 35 to 40,000 euros to
drive a Palm Beach in really good condition in Germany. For self-restoration I do not have the time. I cant do it either. That hardly seems feasible.
Of course, depends on the Kaufpeis. I really only need top technology and nice features. But without gas, fridge & co there will certainly be no GMC.
What happened to your GMC in Germany? Greetings from Berlin, Arne

I think i know if a Palm Beach in Gernany that might be for sale. I'll
check.

Interesting prices ;-)

Shipping should be around 3000 from Baltimore, if you drive the coach to
the harbor.

TüV "conversion" is not really necessary. The only thing (apart from the
propane), that is really needed is replacement of the headlights. That's
a one-hour DIY affair for someone that is not handy with tools plus
50EUR for Amazon.

The paper work to get German registration (incl the Historic Vehicle
designation) is around 400EUR.

If you want propane, that will be around 2000-3000EUR, plus any
appliance that you might want/need.

> I was hoping for 35 to 40,000 euros to drive a Palm Beach in really

Your price idea is not too far off. If you don't take your travel to the
US into consideration, you should find something for 20-25kUSD range,
and have someone in Germany do the rest for you. There is a garage near
Wismar, which has helped me getting my 23' sorted out.

> What happened to your GMC in Germany?

It is being used about once every month for weekend outings, plus we
went to Croatia this summer, and will have a week long vacation on Sylt
in October.

Hello Peer Oliver, thanks for all your information and the super nice contact. The world is really small. Today I met Deni, your garage at Wismar, in
the US Motorhome Europe Forum :) My concern about the registration problems is now much smaller. Thank you ! Now I have to first find the GMC Palm
Beach in really top condition. Not easy from Germany. Unfortunately I do not have time for a trip at the moment. I need someone in the US to help me.
I have already emailed some apparently well-known GMC dealers. Do you have an idea how I can do the best search from Germany? For purchase, transport
to the port and shipping, there are apparently companies that offer as a full service. No idea who makes that reputable. Questions about questions. I
hope I do not bother you now. Oh yes, and when you're in Berlin next time, do not hesitate to contact me. Best regards, Arne

Contact Bob DuNnahugh. He is finishing up a total rebuild and (for condition and work done) his price is a 'gimmie', abnd you might find someone to
drive it tto the shipping site. I'd do it for expenses.... but expenses would include fare to wherever I pick it up, and back to Atlanta from the
shipping port.

Mike Kelley here:
I spoke w/ Bob Dunahugh about your desires for a GMC coach. His nearly all rebuilt is a 73 Canyonlands model. Not an original interior as he gutted it and redid the whole interior, He has refreshed most of the mechanicals (he is a very good and GMCMH knowledgeable mechanic) except for the transmission. If you want a very reliable coach to go abroad, you should talk to him in person - his phone # is 419-521-4891.
He is honest and reliable- he told me he could rebuild the tranny for $1,800 (I don’t know that it needs it but that is the kind of guy he is - wants everything safe and reliable).
Hope this helps - It’s now in your hands!
