Hey wannabees!

After seeing this coach, I added up all the receipts I have so far, plus the
cost of my coach, which was considerably less than this nice Palm Beach. I then
added a fair labor rate for my time ($.001/hour) and looked at the total, then
thought about how much I still want to do...... A word of advise if you are
thinking of doing the same. DONT unless you enjoy striking yourself in the
forehead repeatedly with the claw end of a hammer.

I wish I could attribute the quote, but I remember one GMCer telling me
early on, "We all end up with $35,000 coaches. Some of us just start at a
lower number."

Good, I still have $19,000 to spend. I guess I am not in such bad shape after
all.

Ron,
It's not fair to pin total costs on the GMC. Once you decide you want to
own a motor home, purchase cost, maintenance cost, facility cost and
operating cost goes with any brand of motor home. I'll bet ours are a lot
cheaper than some. Comments anyone?

Don't forget to include depreciation cost in your calculations. Some of those
babies drop 20-30% in the first year. On a $150,000 coach, that is roughly
equal to our hypothetical $35,000 investments. I figure that my coach will be
worth in the $14-16 range when Phase I, Coach I is finished. Heck, the sticker
on mine was about that when it was new. After 27 years (mine is a 73), what do
you think the SOB's will be worth compared to their purchase price?

Another factor is the customization that allows me to make it MY coach. Even if
I chose to do an all original restoration, it is my choice. It wouldn't be half
as fun if all our coaches were identical like Hondas comming off the boat.

In the spirit of "full disclosure", a sharp-eyed GMCnetter noticed that the
pictures of this coach are identical to one in the row above it on the
"index" page. I checked with Buddy and he did indeed use "file" photos of
the other Palm Beach. He assured me that the two coaches are virtual twins,
and would be happy to provide actual photos and equipment lists to
interested parties.

If you call, mention my name and maybe I'll get an "attaboy".

"Supportability" Now there's a point. While I'm not sure it's really a
word, the concept of parts availability and service for a 20-plus-year-old
coach like we have is completely unique. You wouldn't believe the number of
emails I get every week from someone looking for parts or manuals for their
10 or 15 year-old SOB.

Do you think Daves credit card has enough credit left on it to try it out?
I was always amazed that people plonked down $10,000,000 for the yachts our
company built. It cost almost $1,000,000 to run it for the year not
including depreciation. THAT is money to burn.

Now you're getting greedy. First it was the laptop and I went along with
that because it was for a worthy cause. But now you want us to send you
money toward a new Prevost because someone heisted yours from your office
while you weren't looking?

I was only refering to looking at how much you have spent. I believe that the
money I spent on the coach was some of the best spent money that has ever slid
though my fingers. It will be what I want when it is done. I will have
stolen/borrowed ideas from a lot of other folks in getting there, but it will be
mine!
