We recently replaced the remote start switch because the bracket
that holds the switch in the wall broke. We replaced it with a
DPDT rocker switch. We taped off the lamp wire since this switch
is not illuminated. We attached the start, stop, and ground wires
(obviously incorrectly) The generator starts fine, but when the stop
is pressed it causes the fuse to blow on the circuit board. Got any
tips????

I need some onan help too! Which spade of the control circuit board
should be +12v?

Les, Des, and Larry,

According to the maintenance manual for the GMC the following diagram
will describe the terminals to hook to the switch.

2 = Stop O O Light = 6
1 = Ground O O no connection = 5
3 = Start O O no connection = 4

wire 1 is dark blue
wire 2 is tan
wire 3 is pink
wire 6 is light green

If you don't have those colors you will have to trace the wires back to the
circuit board on the Onan. Terminal 1 on the circuit board connects to
terminal 1 on the switch, 2 to 2, 3 to 3, and 6 to 6.

That explanation may be as clear as mud to you. If you don't understand it
I will try again. Let me know how things come out.

Tim,

I believe #3 Terminal (on the top) is the +12v. Once the Generator
starts, #6 Terminal (on the top) is +12v to light the illuminated
switch. #2 Terminal is the STOP wire and #1 is Ground. #4 and
#5 are empty.

BTW - we solved our problem. We had the STOP wire and the
LAMP wire reversed on the switch.

Thanks Russ,
Your expanation is very clear. What I'm really trying to determine is
where
the control circuit board mounted on the generator should recieve it's
+12v.
