The Shamans with whom I sometimes booze are greatly concerned about the future of the Sun. They say their calculations are that the Forces of Evil
will swallow the Sun on the 21st of August next. If a sufficient number of people stand in the dark and chant for a couple or three minutes, the
Forces of Evil will be compelled to regurgitate the Sun and put it back in its normal place in the heavens. To this end, some of us are forming up a
No Host Rally in the mountains North of here. We'll do Friday night through Monday night, and go home Tuesday, assuming our chants are successful.
If you travel sans toad, we'll make arrangements to get you to a denomination of your choice Sunday morning.
Please consider joining us for this event, we don't wan the Sun to disappear permanently. You have nearly a year to plan.
We're currently comparing RV parks in NE Ga, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee. Keep watching this space.

I, also, am very concerned about the return of the forces of evil. This might be last chance to defeat them......

Be sure and select a place with a good view at the proper time! Wasn't it a good view at Bean Station? I don't remember...

Unfortunately, Bean Station is well out of the path. In that area of Tennessee, you need to be below I-40. NOAA has a projected map of the path
across the lower 48. Many spots to choose from across the country. Too bad that it is occurring in August, not during the traditional school year.
What a great teaching opportunity.

You are all worried about the wrong thing. It isn't the sun disappearing and the forces of evil appearing, it's the force of rain ruining this amazing
opportunity! I'm pretty sure we will be dragging our kids out to see it somewhere!

The rain or cloud cover are due to the Forces of Nature, Jeremy. Nobody has so far managed to overcome them, although as a group, humanity is well on
the way to doing so. Even in clouds or rain though the forces of night will be present, and a successful opposition will make it plain they've been
defeated.

Currently, a couple of RV parks in the Franklin NC area look like the best option. They're about as close to Birmingspam as you're going to get and
make the event, please to join us. Your kids might miss a Monday of school given the current trend towards starting in the swelter of August... but
the learning value here offsets that day easily.

You people have obviously way too much time on your hands. Go work on your GMC instead.!

I'm going to Bend Oregon for it. Hopefully, I'll have a GMC by then.

I might go out in the yard and experience the totality. If you have never
experienced it, it is an awe inspiring event. The last one we had here we
drove to Hermiston, Or to see. Shadows upon the land moving at an amazing
pace. Black as night, then twilight. Cool.
Our young kids were impressed and still mention it. See it if you possibly
can.

My kids will definitely have to miss school. They are getting awfully close to a July start down here. Might as well send them year round. But outings
like this can be excused. We got our whole trip to D.C. to see my wife's grandfather buried at Arlington excused for this school year. As long as
there is an educational component. We didn't have much luck getting our Disney trip excused, except for the day spent at Epcot. We promised to take
Annie on The Land Ride, apparently that's educational enough. Ridiculous.

Might want to look into River Vista Mountain Village RV Park just north of Dillard GA. It should be in the teeny tiny part of GA that is dead perfect.
And it's a really nice park. I know it's been a few years, but both Dixielanders (2010?) and Eastern States (Spring 2011) did a rally there to good
reviews even if the Eastern States event wasn't well attended. If I remember right, it was Joe Mondello's last event. Or at least the last one I went
to and saw him. I'll never forget him driving my daughter around on his golf cart. He absolutely adored kids, and my daughter, probably all of 18
months at the time, had an absolute blast with him.

River Vista is on the list along with two SW of Franklin. I'm trying to get a couple of points along the middle of the full path spotted by lat/long
so I can put the path in Google Earth and see which place(s) fall closest to the centerline.
As to whomever asked about the booze, this one is worthy of the 20 or 23 Y/O Family Reserve, if I can swing it financially. Otherwise, Booker's will
suffice.

Jeremy wins his choice of the furlined syrup pitcher or the cut glass flyswatter for his recommendation of River Vista Park in Dillard, GA. It looks
to be square on the line according to the NASA plot in Google Maps. I'll get hold of the park and see if we can do some sort of a deal, or at least
ask them to hold a dozen sites for that weekend on into June or July. 5 July to 31 August is their second cheapest rate anyway, the other being in
the dead of winter. Rates go up in September to gouge the Leaf Maggots who roam the area looking.

Keep watching this space.

Heck of a nice RV park. Pretty sure I can sell my wife on that, even if the last time we were there we lost a rear wheel on the interstate not far
from Zeb Frady. One of only 2 trips in 9 years we didn't make it home in the coach.

I took my daughter out of school one time for 2 weeks so she could go to Australia and New Zealand with me. I had to get permission first because of
a state law stating that she could not miss 10 days of school in a semester. I took her out another time so she could go to France with me.

I do not see a problem with missing a day or two for an educational experience.
