I hate to announce this, but, as President of the GMC CASCADERS, it is in
my best interest to support my club to the best of my abilities. Will and
Janice Powers from the Columbia Gorge Area are in the process of planning
a "Totality Awesome" rally. Location is yet to be determined, but plans are
underway. We will have details up on the Web site at gmc
cascaders.com
before too long. Hotels in the area have gone completely ape $!#$ in the
price gouging department, some as high as $600.00 per night. Every
campground that is privately owned has done similar stunts. The State owned
campsites that are available for reservations are all booked up. There will
be a few more available on Wednesday (tomorrow) by calling the Oregon
State Parks reservation number after 8:00 A.M. PDT. Good luck with that.
That leaves Federal Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers, County Parks, Cities, and Utility Companies like
Portland General Electric and others with campgrounds to rent. Tens of
thousands of people have flooded the reservation hotlines with requests
for spaces. As Jim K might say, "Rots'a Ruck" finding something. If I had
an 80 acre field with a clear view of the sky, I might just put up a
temporary soundstage, a few Porta potties, hire some rock bands and have
"Woodstock West II. If you build it, they will come.
