Hi Patrick,
Well I got My GMC..Paid $740.00 plus $300.00 for
back storage on it. Emmet Dennis was the owner.
Going thru his papers I found that He was the
Vice President of the "GMC Great Lakers" in 1980.
I have a few questions. First, Did I read that there
was some kind of a recall on the brake system or
something in that area and I should call GM to see
if this recall has been done???? I thought I read
that this might be a way to get some brake work
done for free. My next question...What is the
procedure for starting the Generator..A 4000watt
onan. Where do I find the Solinoid for the Engine?
( I'm talking about the drivetrain now. ) I need to
jump start the beast.Should I disconnect one of the
batteries.. I'm sure there both bad. Its been sitting
for two years now. I need to get it started so I
can move it to my house to work on it. How do I work
the toilet..Its a chemical type. Do I need to add
chemicals now? There is a slight ordor in the coach.
It might be comming from the holding tank. The gauge
reads that the tank is half full...But havent got 12v
power yet, Might change when I do. I spent the day
cleaning out cupboards, food was left in them..Mice!
Carpet will go tommorow. There's a crack in the roof
about 16" from the back...Is this where fiberglass
and Aluminum meet? The air conditioner is gone or
missing some parts. I havent really messed with that
yet. Does anybody have RV parts and assessorys catalogs
online on the Net?
I have some cool plans for this coach...I would like
change the headlights and grill to some newer looking.
Add GPS system, Plus PC Auto running windows CE 2.0.
New interior,lighting and cabinets.
Well I'll let ya go now. Hope to hear from You Soon.

Congrats Rob! Now you've got your work cut out for you. I'll try to
help where I can. I'm sure others will chime in too.

The recall is on the rear suspension. The recall replaces the small pin
rear suspension. Check will Cinnabar. They're handling the recall for
GM.

There should be a control panel next to the entrance door and a start
button on the generator itself. If your coach has the dual batteries up
front, then it also probably has a battery in the generator compartment
to start the generator.

It's on the top of the starter.

One is the "house" battery, for the 12V lights and accessories. The
other is the "coach" battery, for the engine. To get it home,
disconnect the house battery and replace the coach battery.

Sounds like a recirculating toilet. If you've got two year old waste in
the holding tank, you need to flush it out ASAP.

Shouldn't be less than 16", but there is a seam up there.

GMCMI has a pretty good list of links at www.gmcmi.com

Sounds neat. Keep us up to date on your progress.

Oops! That should read "Should be less than 16".

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the Info.... Can You be more specific about the recall? What
does it
entail? What parts do they replace?

O.K.
Now for the hard part. I spent the day trying to start the Beast. I might
have
hooked up the wrong Positive cable. I hooked the one that runs to a
Firewall
mounted Solonoid..We get nothing. If I run a jumper from Positive off
battery
to Right side of Solonoid then I get Lights,Running Lights,Radio. The
starter
will turn...But drag hard...I smoked a Small Groung Wire that was connected
to a Battery Cable and ran to the metal plate that the Solonoid is mounted
to.
I guess I need to Know what Cable that is....A negative cable (?) running
toward
the back of the engine,Bundled with a Postive cable running to the Starter.
Maybe there is a direct short in that bundle? I'm just confused as to why
the
small ground wire burned...We had replaced a Ground Cable with a 25" 2
gauge
heavy duty cable running from the battery to the radiator mount. It looks
like its connected right to the frame.
Is there another solonoid on the starter? We did replace the one on the
firewall.
Do You know the wiring schematic for that? Maybe I misplaced one of the
wires. Also,
what is the item right above the Solonoid...It has three wires running to
it and a
huge heat sink...Maybe a Voltage Regulator???? Then below and to the left
is a small
item with two hot wires running to it, one running up to the firewall
solonoid.
What is that? I need to purchase a shop manual very soon!
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rick,
This is just a note to let You know I received your Message.
I have not removed the starter yet...But think thats the problem.
I need to get some jack stands to support the coach before
working on it. I hope to get to it saturday.
Thanks for Your help.
