I recently took out poop tank and gray water tank as well as valves, lines etc. Waiting for replacements from Jim K. He's also sending me a
macerator I have 76 Royale, side bath, twin beds in mechanically great shape (Hi Bob Done-a-hug) We are really on the fence with the macerator and
thought you folks might be helpful with hints. Placement of the macerator, has me somewhat confused and I like to keep things simple. Any thoughts
 
Can't help you with placement since the two tanks make your coach a lot different than mine, but I will say adding a macerator was one of the best
enhancements I've done to the coach. Screw it on, flip the switch, poop goes away. So much better than stinky slinkies and ramps, and uphill dump
stations or every other poorly planned dump or sewer system I've come across at a campground.

The macerator kit I got from Applied came with enough instructions that even I manged to install it - so you shouldn't have any problems.

Miguel did the one on my coach, but it's a single tank. Teed the macerator off to the side with a gate valve before it for maintenance and straight
back with another gate valve and fitting for a stinky slinky. Best of both worlds. If I were doing a two tank, I'd do it like my SOB - gate valve on
each tank and they tee into a single duump pipe so you could do the black tank, close it off, and 'rinse' the line with the gray tank. It wiould of
been fairly easy to tee a macerator off the single line.

And a Guru Question. Guys, when I have a sewer hookup at the camp, sometimes I hook the slinky and leave everything open and sometimes I go out now
and again (every coupkle of days depending on water usage) and fir off the macerator and dump. What difference doe this make to operation of the
black tank? I don't see any, it's a balance between the slinky out once and rinsed and back once vs daily or ever other day hit the switch.

If you leave the valve open on your 3” hose you run the risk of the liquid running off but the solids piling up in the tank and drying in a pile and then they don’t dissolve and drain out. I posted once that some have dumped in a couple of bags of ice cubes and drove on a bumpy road to break things up. A couple of people posted that it was a myth and didn’t work but I got a half dozen “off the net” emails saying it worked great.
I haven’t tried it myself as I don’t leave the valve open but only drain the tank when it’s about full. And I haven’t used my 3” hose for years because my macerate does a better job.

Well either way on the way home I usually drain the freshwater tank into it for the ride and when I get here dump it. No chemicals ever, cos I dump
here into a septic system.

I recently installed a macerator in my 76 Royale - after contemplating it for 18 months or more...

My tanks had been replaced a number of years ago by the PO (by Jim H.?) - so they may be plumbed very differently than yours.

Due to having two tanks and associated plumbing - I had problems trying to find a place “down low” where I could mount the macerator. I kept reading and searching and found many examples of the macerator being mounted higher up, including one Royale example (Fred?) on the GMC Photo site that had the macerator up above the frame rails! So I figured I could be more flexible with mounting.

I ended up mounting mine on a bar that holds some bottoming out rubber bumpers - it’s about 3 inches above the the pipe it draws from. I plumbed it into the 1 1/2” grey pipe, very near where it tees from the 3” black/drain pipe.

I’ve only used it twice now - but it worked well. I’m sure I’m not FULLY draining the pipe - since it sucks air towards the end of the drain and must leave some residue in the pipe. But it’s so much better than having to nervously look at the sani-dump and hope that I can position myself in a way that will let gravity do it’s thing...

I’ll try to get some pics up on the photos site - it may or may not help...

Larry is the pvc pipe in the last picture of your set up simply a resevoir to store your macerator hose in? Also, did you get rid of the steel plate
"protector" near the hitch in the back. I noticed what appeared to be casters back there
 
Recommend a gate valve be installed before and after your new installation. My installation has power valves installed before the macerator reducing
any grabbing of a manual handle. If you can find a Class A in a men's mall, you may find the power valves. They do have a manual handle as backup.

Macerators make the dumping problems go away. Highly recommend them.
