I got my gmc motorhome from my dad who traded a box truck for it. I don't got any plans yet other then i need to replace the interior due to severe water damage along a laundry list of smaller things that need to happen to it(entire air system, all the wiring, replacing the dashboard completely due to damage, replacing the water tanks, replacing the generator, and more) so as of right now the plan is to strip the interior down to nothing and replace it with a more modern one

Welcome, Tommy! That coach looks familiar. Didn't I see it on Facebook recently? A good pressure washing will sure be a satisfying experience.

Tommy,

You found your way here and that is great. There is also another forum that is all ways older than this. The only reason I mention that is that the people at the other forum have seen just about everything, but they are old (like me) and don't have your energy to pursue everything any more. They can, like here, be an amazing source of information. I see you started with a great sigfile. That makes things way easier for those that might like to assist you.

You have just been dropped into a community of amazingly supportive and helpful people. To make the best use of this, you don't need to do much but ask questions and pay attention to the answers.

The other thing you need to do is contact the local chapters to get to a rally to see what others have done. Before you spend any money, you should realize that the interior of these coaches were all very carefully designed. This makes improving the layout more difficult than it might seem. There are still things that can be done, and most all of them have been. You just have to find the person that did it and ask how well it worked out.

As above, Welcome aboard.

Matt

could you perhaps elaborate on this?

Tommy,
You are in the territory of GMC Flatlanders and you are not that far from GMC Greatlakers. Go over to GMCMI.com and learn about both. They both have rallies all the time and one has to be in striking range.

Consider focusing on the mechanicals first. Get it running and safe to drive down the road.

Don't skimp on the fuel system: Drop the tanks and make sure they are clean. Have them boiled out if needed. Put in all new ethanol resistant fuel hose; barricade hose. New ethanol resistant fuel pump.

Then use it! Even if there's no interior, camping in a GMC shell is still way better than tent camping. Use it, enjoy it, keep it in a state of running at all times.

If you tear it apart and make it unusable, then there is a high probability that it will never get back on the road and will end up scrapped, which would be a shame.

Welcome to the asylum. I've been banging my head against a kingsley for about two years now, more off than on. Mine had to have the interior removed entirely as well, but I am putting the original seats/dinette back in after complete teardown/reupholster. Let me know if you have any questions, I've now seen up and behind every skirt the old girl has, happy to help if I can.
