Hello! Hunting for my GMC!

Deb,

I live in Calgary, Alberta and recently this year purchased a 1977 Kingsley 26 foot (Elvis) that is mostly original. I have been monitoring new listings since and not much has come up. I bought mine on Kijiji in Lethbridge. Other than the generator board being bad, It was basically a ready to roll unit. Most of the units coming up for sale have been on Kijiji in Alberta with a couple in B.C. There was a 23 foot Birchaven in B.C. about 2 months ago for $19,000 can that looked not bad. There was also a nice 26 foot Eleganza? I believe in Edmonton for $20k that looked very nice too, in fact it was on the GMC Motorhome for sale site on Facebook too. Also, there is/was a 26 footer in High River for $15k on Kijiji that looked ok too. I have not personally looked at any of the mentioned ones in person. After July the number of offerings in western Canada really dried up.

I too want to put a scooter on my back bumper and I purchased a 500# steel rack from princess auto that was on sale for $100, regular $150. The steel rack apparently weighs about the same as the aluminum one they offer for a 400# rating, if you believe there specs. Anyways, Elvis is now in storage so I’m onto my other projects. Let me know if I can assist you in your GMC hunting. My cell is 403-808-8267.

"Thank you, thank you very much" (Sorry, had to!) Seriously Neil, I appreciate the help. I'v actually had my eye on that 76 in High River. The
seller has sent me a tonne of video and pix that he has uploaded into his Dropbox. It's an interesting vehicle. Has had some work done on it -
example, the digital dash & an engine rebuild both done 23K ago, new range, oven & fridge, Generac generator with remote start from inside (and it
works - demo'd on the video) and other items I can't recall off the top of my head. Still very much on the list. But, I have been convinced to slow
down a bit. Hard to do, but I'm trying :) If I decide to consider more seriously, maybe I could give you a shout.

Based on my experience, and that of at least two other GMCers whom I know,
if that's a Generac 36, discount it -- plan to replace it. The fact that
it's no longer sold probably reflects similar experience for others.

Thanks Ken. Very good to know!

Brian makes a good point about the 2013 flood in High River, it’s worth checking into that more. Also, I forgot to mention there was a recent 26 footer on Kijiji in green with green and more green here in Calgary. Obviously, an original beauty but the owner tells me tonight that it just sold. No mention of price however. I know all about the diving in too fast as it’s almost impossible not to buy right away but try and resist and look at lots. As mentioned before, there are a lot more choices in the USA so don’t discount that even with the dollar being what it is. Good hunting!

I was thinking about the flood - who knows were this one was parked during that! And I did check into the green with green on green :) It was going
to need tires & brakes & "bushings" within the year. Had rebuilt tranny apparently but he was swearing that it was 37,000 original miles. May have
been. But For what I saw, and what I knew up front it was going to need before next season was out, he wanted too much (more than I was willing to
pay especially since I know nothing and hadn't seen it at all) wanted $8800 - and I have the '73 in ON that I was looking at for $3000 more with a lot
more upgrades and updates. Plus I really couldn't get over the green on green on green with green shag carpet and green trim upholstery. Couldn't
face it. And he got back to me tonight too about the sale. Hope it goes well for whoever; I suspect that it could have been more than I would have
wanted to take on this early in my "career" anyway.

I am starting to enjoy the hunt and the research. Getting to know a bit more about what's good, what isn't, what I could live with, what layout I
might prefer (side wet-bath and the rear gaucho arrangement I think will suit me best the 26-3 I think it is). I will be doing some investigating on
how much it would take to make changes to the inside if the unit showed up with all of the mechanicals and accessories in great nick, but the interior
wasn't going to be what I really wanted. And then there's the perennial generator question - good, bad or ugly (or missing altogether!).

Lots to think about and even more to learn.

That High River flood ...there was a beaytiful coach in high river that had a total renovation. It sat through the flood. I believe it was auctioned off although I am not sure if I am remembering correctly...there were pics of it on this forum. Someone here will know about this. There was something very negative about this beautiful coach. Brian 77ele

It looks like I should have patented mine.

http://www.discountramps.com/tilting_motorcycle_rack/p/ACR-MOTORCYCLE-CARRIER/

I had a little less than $50.00 in mine. Most of it was steel scraps that I picked up at a local steel and aluminum fabricator. The owner of the
steel company has 2 GMC's but I have never met him.

 They were peeking around the corner during the build.

There was a super modified GMC (~ $200,000 or more) that got

caught in a flood in Calgary a couple or three years back.

It was a Jim Bounds project that was finished just before the

previous Dothan convention and displayed there.

I have never heard if it had been repaired/restored.

Definitely a crying shame the owner could not get it moved in time!

There was a super modified GMC (~ $200,000 or more) that got

caught in a flood in Calgary a couple or three years back.

It was a Jim Bounds project that was finished just before the

previous Dothan convention and displayed there.

I have never heard if it had been repaired/restored.

Hi Deb, tell you what,I am working on my GMC now after three years in storage where it decided not to run. We moved and repeated trips to Houston to
get it drivable to our new location 100 miles away did not work, so I had it trailered here and am now working to solve a few problems before
marketing it.
I will be selling it for under $10,000 once I have it up and ready. Further, I will drive it to Canada for you to decide. It is a 1974, 26ft, yellow
GMC. The engine was rebuilt before we bought it. Mileage unknown but we have added 25,000 to it plus having the suspension rebuilt.
I have owned it since 2001 and have receipts for over $30,000 spent in maintenance and upgrades. I can send copies of the receipts by year to you. We
paid $14,500 for it initially plus the $30k. It will come with brand new tires on 16 inch wheels(original 16.5 inch tires are getting hard to
find-plus, if you have a blow out as I did with used tires(big mistake) you could get stiffed as I did with a $265 tire that was the wrong size. After
that I bought aluminum wheels and new Bridgestone tires which never failed. However, the Aluminum wheels are reserved for the other GMC and will not
be sold.
We are selling this coach to upgrade another GMC motorhome we already have as a result of my business of selling used GMC M/H parts. This one was
upgraded by the prior owner whose son kept it after dad passed away.
The roof air is working fine after storage as is the fridge which was new in 2008. We had new carpet and pad installed before storing it and it has
not been used-no dogs, nothing. I have runners down to protect it. Recently had the cushion covers dry cleaned and not installing them until all work
inside is done. Will be checking all systems-furnace, water pump, lines and tank, electrical, plumbing, etc. Oh, under the carpet was parquet flooring.
Unfortunately, it has stapple holes from the old carpet, but it is still there like an extra insulation for the flooring.
Please feel free to ask any questions about our coach or any other you may be interested in.
Today, I have asked other owners for assistance elsewhere on this forum with a mechanical issue.

My email is mailto:gemrecs or cell phone at 713-373-7775. Thx, Michael

Hi Deb, Welcome to the GMC family, I have a 1973 Sequoia bought years ago has been my baby ever since she is in need of nothing, to long a list at
this time. All-though we live close by unable to show you at this time, we are in Sun lakes AZ until the 14 dec then off to Mexico for 3 mths, before
heading north and home to Armstrong, will arrive around the 15th April. My first mate has broached the subject of age, and maybe its time retire from
motor homing and move on to new adventures? If you are still looking at that time give me a bell at 602- 239-4132. My AZ # 480-326-5222. Good luck.
