Actually looking at a gmc motorhome right now and want opinions on if this thing is worth it to get and fix up or if it could be and vice versa is this worth it for a gen z er to get or am i way out of my head. I love the yellow it has on it don't really know what the other color used to be on it for the stripes but it is a very lovely yellow just concerned that this may be a dud it's at a auction yard right now also concerned it has rust or something i'm in a whole different state from it so i can't really check if it does or not it's a 1976. I like doing art and this thing is just like is it normal to feel you can see your future in this thing or am i thinking on it too hard??. Also not too sure how much it would be to have towed all the way from the other state to the actual state i'm living in to get it off that auction lot or if i should just get a storage unit in the other state and save up cause i may not even have enough to even get it towed down here to the south and i have never owned one of these before so i feel like it would be a major struggle for me to fix up. But i like it cause it could definitely be an aesthetic thing plus i like art like it just it's getting to me and idk why since it's such a dust bunny. Imma definitely need insight on this motorhome thing if i do get it. like some major insight cause it needs some help is it ok if i modernize it myself??. Should i get this and rescue it.

I appreciate your good taste in seeing the beauty and classic design in a GMC Motorhome. A lot of money will have to be spent, thousands, to bring that particular GMC back into livable condition and even more to make it road worthy.

I am saying this not to be negative, but to help you avoid a not uncommon scenario. Someone will buy a GMC, of varying condition, and they'll immediately gut the interior. Then money, time, life intervenes and the GMC is sold for scrap. Nobody wins.

I would suggest you look for a functional and serviceable GMC before taking on such a huge project as this one would definitely be.

It's a buyer's market for GMCs. I'm sure you'll find another one that you won't have to sink $10 grand into pretty much immediately.

What sort of art project do you see for the GMC? If you're going to cut up that GMC for a stationary art installation or storage, well that would be a different matter.

+1 to what Richard said. It's also not easy to find qualified shops to work on these, so anyone with a solid GMC is either doing the bulk of the work themselves or they have access to knowledgeable service folks and the deep pockets to fund the work. For a long time the community has said "one way or another you're going to spend $30k to have a solid GMC Motorhome." My guess is that number has increased significantly in recent years.

No it would just be a place for me to live in and do art but I think it would take alot of money to make it what i want and see it as but it would not be cut up what i mean by storage is it would go into a storage unit i don't have anywhere else to put it really and yeah it might be too much for me to handle on money wise but it would just be such an esthetically pleasing thing my art is mainly animation/digital wise it's not to cut up stuff. I wish it wasen't so expensive to get it running i could handle the inside and such but getting it also up and running is crazy and i woulden't even know if it up and runs right now cause its listed as not having a key.

I saw that there is a place that does the windshield part for this but idk how reliable that is alex reliable for that does that still get sold??. Yeah I agree the wiring is probably gone cause of the snow and whatever water has gotten into it the floor is all there though it's not free but it's junkyard priced lol. I'm concerned for the front seats though. Most likely water damaged. Do people still do the windshield for this thing?? And who broke it to begin with.

Yes, you can buy windshields. Just under $700 each (needs two). No installation or shipping (they are made local to me, so I forget about shipping). With installation you are looking at over $1K each.

This is a "parts" coach. You don't buy it to restore but to supply parts for your "other" coach in better condition. Just to sit in it mostly dry in folding chairs (not car seats) will cost you over $2k in repairs. Maybe you can find another parts coach with intact glass or find someone who recently replaced old glass with new (it will be cloudy around the edges from age), but as old as that glass is, it might break while removing/installing it.

Unless you are REALLY handy, and a way better than average mechanic, and you have LOTS of money, you should probably pass. Even if you are not planning on getting it running and completely functional, it will cost you an EASY 3-4 thousand dollars just to get it habitable. Getting it running and dependable...sky's the limit.

Mines sat for 4 years. Life events etc. But it was covered so the elements other than the salty air (which sucks!) havent had too bad of an impact. To get it road worthy safely again, I've already spent close around $8k in parts, probably more to be spent soon I'm guessing. Wife and I do the labor ourselves so we save on that side of things. This is just rims, tires, brakes, suspension and just lots of misc stuff.

At the end of the day, anything can be saved if you have the money to save it. Only you can answer that.

You could put $60,000 into this glenbrook and it would be worth $20k.

There are such complete and cleaner gmc’s out there for a better starting point.

Labor and parts are just expensive. Better to find a better coach to start with.
