Gents (and ladies)...
May I introduce myself:
My name is Les Watson and my wife is Sharon. We live in
Orem, Utah (about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.
I will be 60 years old next March. I am a retired Air Force
Senior Master Sergeant and teach part time beginning computer
classes for our local community education system for something
to do with my spare time. I have owned a Truck and Camper most
of my adult life and enjoy camping and canoeing. (built my own
redwood strip canoe)
I purchased a "new to me" 77 Palm Beach the second week of
April. Just prior to the purchase I looked up GMC Motorhomes on
the Web to see what I was getting into. (WOW!).
I first became acquainted with GMCs while subscribing to Trailer Life
Magazine in 1973 when they first were on the market. I liked what I
saw and thought that if I ever purchased a motorhome, that's what I would
like. I have since known a couple of people who have owned them but
remained unfamiliar with the details.
After purchase, I registered it with the registry and have been
out camping locally with it twice. We are looking forward to really putting
it to the test the end of this week with a 600 mile round trip run to St.
George
Utah and back. We will then put about that much mileage on it again
the first part of June if all goes well.
I have received quite an education by reading the GMCnet Archives (mostly
May 99) and have learned many things. (some of it very scary!) The discussion
about Load Range "D" or "E" tires made me wonder what I had, so the other
day I went out and checked. There are 5 new (less than 1000 miles) "D"s and
one older "E". I think the prior owner must not have read the net much and
followed the recomendations in the Owners Manuel. I think he only had the
motorhome for about 5 years and he had spent a lot of money fixing it up
and replacing
many items. (I'm sure he made a profit when he sold it.) I have no
maintenance
records prior to his. The owner prior to him must have had "E"s as the
well used
spare tire is an "E".
My Worrys:
Running Load Range "D"s that can't be replaced for several years.
The engine has 121,000 miles on it and I have no idea if it has ever been
rebuilt.
(Seems to run OK however)
Many other scary tales from the GMCnet.
Wish me LUCK! while I become acquainted with my classic.
BTW...I take the digest version so my responses will not be very timely.
Enough for now.....

PS....any other GMCers in UTAH?
