Height Control Valves

I was befuddled when I read Thom's post last Friday about height control
valves being unavailable as a new part, since I had recently paid
Buskirk's to install just such a critter on my coach. I thought I'd
better wait till I could confirm with Buskirk's before I replied to the
GMCnet.

According to Max at Buskirk-Rush RV, new OEM height control valves are
still available from GM, but only for the Electrolevel II system. (Which
is what my 78 Royale has). I asked Max what they used for Electro I etc,
and he said they get a new valve, brand name "New Way" for about $132.

Thom, if you need a new valve call Max at 800-715-1133. I'm sure he
could fix you up.

Good Luck!

Thom,

I've got a cousin who owns trucks. When I asked him about the air system he
took me out and showed me several tractors and trailers all of which had a
leveling valve like our GMC's use except that they look bigger. The air
lines much be 3/8" although some 1/4" was used in other locations. His
trucks are also connected to override the auto leveling but the valves are huge.

My cousin says the air system parts for trucks are cheap but I don't know
what his calibration for cheap is. The $132 is outside of my cheap
category. I'm a strong believer in keeping things original if at all
possible but these things could be common enough to make an exception.

I didn't have my brain calibrated for scale so don't know if these valves
would fit ok. You can look at some trucks and judge for yourself.

Just thought you'd be interested in the alternative.

Let us know what else you find out.

When I took my valves off they were badly corroded and in the GMC manuals from
Cinnabar they go into seting up the delay etc. Taking them apart they were full
of rust, moisture and various crap from the air system. It is possible to clean
them and restore them to almost new condition. Just be sure not to dump the
silicone fluid out - I do not know where to get a refill, but mine work fine after
a little TLC. It is a pretty simple valve system and unless yours are totally
trashed they should be quite servicable.
