A year or so ago, another netter (Arch ?) had the same problem. He bought a
bunch of vacuum valves and tested them until he found one that would
completely shut off the water. The winner was AutoZone PN 74612. With Mark
Grady's help, I bought the valve and had it installed; no more "leaked"
heat. Provided you have vacuum to the valve and before you do the manual
shut off thing, I suggest you install the AZ valve. HTH
