Not sure of where to put this topic. Also not sure if we’ll get the answer to this but thought I’d ask. Does anyone know of a good way to get your RV into heated storage to work on our rigs? I’ve been wanting to rent a heated storage space to work on window gaskets, roof rail resealing and such. Things that will take a bit of time to do. Just not finding anything that does that. Any ideas?

Thanks,
TG

I had to build my own shop. Now that we are retired, its been the best thing ever. My wife and I spend more time in the shop than we do in the house (including sleeping time). I work on the Murray and my electronics hobby and she refinishes furniture. Only regret is I didn't build it bigger.

Storage places won't let you work on it, so you need to find a stand-alone place to rent not shared with anyone and that is $$$

That looks fantastic. I live in a HOA neighborhood. We like it but it does have its limits. So building my own place would require alot of change to make happen but your setup looks awesome!

I once found an empty grain storage building 50' x300' with concrete floor about a mile from my house. It hadn't been used in years and needed repairs to the tall 16' doors and massive amount of accumulated dirt and dust. No electricity, but my son lent me his welder with a generator.

Building was owned by a chemical manufacturing company located 30 miles away.
I got a lease for $100 a month and was allowed to store 5 motor homes if I wanted to.
I was to keep the entrance cleared and kept the weeds down.

I had negotiated with the president of the company (son of owner) on the contract. After a visit from the owner, I was to reduce my footprint according to the owner. That didn't last long as within a year they wanted me out so they could use the building for equipment storage. I was told in so many words they were afraid that I would leave my junk behind. I did peek one day and saw they were storing an old fire engine and fifth wheel trailer in the building.

As a side note I trapped about a hundred mice and had a skunk family reside in the building for little while.

I was than able to get free indoor storage at an oil well business just 1/4 mile away. Only condition was I couldn't block access to the door for their front loader to get in and out.
When the granddaughter of the owner came on a Suprise visit and saw my motor homes, she had a fit and I lost that storage. I ended up storing one motorhome in a lot within 1 mile of house and was able to store the other motorhome 15 miles away at a friend's business until I could get it sold.

The units weren't ideal, but they were better than nothing.
You might be able to negotiate with a farmer or business about storage and working conditions.

We made an offer on the house conditional on our application to the Municipality to be sure we could build what we wanted. There was several conditions, such as height of structure compared to the house, but they were very happy with the plans I submitted.
I hadn't even heard of HOA's until the Internet came along (I'm in Canada and they are not really a thing here except for Condo boards), and I started reading all the issues they create with the homeowners.

I’m kinda thinking the same thing. I know there are spaces around to do this in but not sure if they would agree to this for me or not. I guess you can just ask.

This is huge problem (pun intended) for a lot of owners. It never really occurred to me that where I was going to park the coach was going to be this big of a deal. I was able to find an RV/boat storage facility WITH individual indoor storage bays. No heat, no electric, and it’s 40ish miles away from me, so not ideal but ok for now. I am able to do light maintenance on the coach there, at least so far.

I have seen around 20 of them, including 2 in my hangar and one outside behind my hangar at my airport. Another place for winter time only storage is at the county fairgrounds.

I watch the Probable Cause channel with Dan Gryder on Youtube, I know he has serious issues with people using hangars for non-airplane uses.

That said, there's a EAA club field near me and at one of their open houses someone mentioned that there are folks in their club that have yet to start working on a plane / kit, but have put up hangars along the field and are using them for storage of non airplane stuff. RV's for instance. B/c the annual cost to rent the spot and membership in the club is so low.
