Paul,
If you can get the originals from Emery for $10 plus shipping you should
grab them. The "original " strips I thought Emery had were plastic backers
with a plastic snap on cover like the ones which came in my Royale. The
plastic type I THOUGHT he was referring to took a rivet on either side of
the finisher retainer strip. This type had the rivet pass through the
retainer and then the headliner material which is similar to the type I had
in my Royale. I did not want to deal with trying to re use old brittle
plastic retainers. Also, the plastic type retainers require a side by side
rivet to hold each panel since a rivet cannot be placed in the center to
hold both panels and not disrupt the clasp which holds the decorative
strip. Since the ceiling ribs that the retainers screw into are really
narrow, a center fastened retainer is much easier to employ. I have already
obtained some new plastic retainers/decorative covers from Nudo as
mentioned earlier in this thread. The type I got is designed to be fastened
on either side of the center finisher retainer much like the ones I had in
my Royale only the Nudo ones are wider and much more pliable. I was able to
center mount the Nudo ones with modification of the retainer strip and a
matching modification of the finisher strip on a test section I did
yesterday. The modification allowed me to use the existing holes in the
ceiling and half of the fasteners than would have been needed using the
strips as designed. It looked good in the test section. When I complete the
installation I will post to the photo site. All of this aside, original
METAL strips with metal snap on covers in good condition will be much
easier to install and grant better headliner hold across a greater distance
than the newer Nudo type I am using.
