They are both a ceramic and sacrificial - depending on the coating that you
buy. The coating on my headers is ceramic (alumina based) and sacrificial.

Swain also applies several types of ceramic, including a non-reactive
insulator.

The real functional choice that you have is between sacrificial and
non-sacrificial Ceramic. I chose the sacrificial coating because the "pure"
ceramic only works to protect the exhaust so long as there are no cracks,
chips, or other damage to the coating. Once the barrier is broken,
corrosion starts and external temps start rising. For some performance
information about HPC coatings' temp characteristics, see
http://www.hpcoatings.com/hightemp.html

Like Swain, HPC coatings also reduce ambient temps and header temps.

Just a little more information FWIW.
