As a former "Plastic" salesman, check the melting and combustion
points of Lexan and the toxicity of the flame.
The idea is good, just make a couple of phone calls before you
start the work. Lexan is as tough as the hinges of hell, but
scratches easily.
Be careful not to place the window where you will be walking on it
or frequently placing things.
Just a thought.....and of course let us know how it turns out...so I
can copy the idea

Lexan came to mind due to it's toughness. Thanks to input, I am going to
look into getting a piece of genuine Thermopane glass. It will withstand
the heat & provide better heat insulation than the wood cover. When my SOB
caught fire, I could smell the gas & just thought I had ruptured a fuel
line. I was concerned about having to fix it in the rain, as I shut down
the engine & pulled the hatch to see where the leak was. Fire never entered
my mind. Imagine my surprise when I pulled the cover & a wall of fire &
toxic smoke hit me in the face. I want to KNOW if there's fire in the hole!
I am changing all oil & trans cooler lines & doing other mods, but the
QuadraJet has a history of sticking floats & needle valves & is on my mind
constantly. Good carb when adjusted & working right. There used to me a
guy here in Tulsa that made an inlet seat & needle to fix the sticking
problem--he has passsed on--I'm trying to find out if they are still
available. If so, will share info.
