I'm finally getting around to working on the buggy this weekend.

Will be upgrading the TSM's on the front rears to Leigh's brakes.
Will also be installing his Master Cyl, Booster, Brake Lock and Front
Calipers.

Anyone done any/all of it lately? Any words to the wise?

TIA - Heinz

I did the whole job last summer. Don't see how I survived without it.
Now I feel in control again. The brake lock REALLY works -- I can hold
my coach with toad on my driveway and you know my driveway!! You'll like
it.

More on installing the Harrison system----
1. The booster can be a real trick to get out since the nuts holding it
in place are buried under the dash. Gene Fisher's pages have a very good
description and pix to help you. Wish I had found it before rather than
after!!!
2. After installation and brake bleeding you will be under the
impression that you still have air in the lines (you might, but
first....) but if the bleeding has been done properly the "problem" which
is a very soft pedal is simply that the pads have not seated. You need
to go (carefully) out on the road and make about 20 dead stops from 20-25
mph. With each stop the brakes firm up and after 25 you are about 90%
there. Amazing!!! Again I wish I had know this before re-bleeding the
brakes a bunch of times.
3. Anderson Automotive in Bandon, OR (close to us in North Bend) did my
work and has my recommendation.

Heinz:

Have you given any thought as to where you'll locate the Mico lock?? I'm
assuming you got it from Leigh??

Although I've yet to install mine, I've noticed pictures in car magazine's
of them located next to the master cylinder, in fact they're plumbed right
into it.

Yes, I did get it from Leigh.

I'm thinking just behind the proportioning valve but have not decided.

Gary: where is your lockvalve located?

Have checked out Gene's site for info but as I've just barely been able to
"lurk" during the last little while I may have missed someone mentioning a
site where additional information and/or pics might be posted I'd appreciate
a nudge/reminder of the url if such site(s) might've been mentioned.

Gary,
Help!. I've never heard of the "Harrison System". Can you fill me in? Is
there a dealer? Is there a Web Page? Thanks.

Heinz,

I would think if you mounted it on the master cylinder before the
combination(aka proportioning) valve that it would result in the piston of
the combi valve moving to the far end of its travel. Since these have been
known to "stick" in that position(I had a brand new one do that when I
installed it), this might not be the best place for the lock valve.

IIRC, Paul removed his combi valve when he installed Leigh's brake kit, so
this wouldn't be a concern for him. Like you, I kept the combi valve when I
went with the TSM brakes.

Bob,

Leigh Harrison builds and sells the system himself. Check in GMC Motorhome
Marketplace and GMC Motorhome News for ads. You can look at the Marion
pictures on my site for some photos of Leigh's stuff.

Nice guy and good products - a little pricey, but you pay for quality.

Patrick,
Thanks for the quick reply. I love this net. I found an ad in GMCMM for 6
wheel disc brakes. Are those the right ad? What's your site's URL? Thanks
again.

You're welcome.

Yep - should be a Virginia area code.

I located my micro lock just behind the proportioning valve so that ONLY the
rear four wheels are locked. It has more than adequate holding power even on
VERY steep grades and allows me to lock the rear wheels while applying driving
power to the front wheels before releasing the brakes -- gives me a little
boost starting from dead still going up a steep and slippery grade--- not
having to deal with the rearward momentum.

Thanks for the reminder Patrick.

I guess that's why we were going for 'after the valve' when we got close to
almost starting on the project in November.

This time for real though... gotta get the cores back to Leigh :-)

Heinz

BTW, did I miss some other 'picture' links or should I dust off the 'ol
Nikon?
