After a lot of hoping and wishing it finally came to a conclusion:

The 23' is officially a German registered car.

For those who want to know: The costs for certification, registration
and new tags was around 700USD. On top of that are of course the costs
for import duties, shipping etc.

I am happy that it is finally done :-)

Very cool Peer!
I have always wondered what it costs to ship a vehicle like this overseas, do you mind sharing the total cost to get it over there?
If you're not comfortable with that no worries! But it never hurts to ask.

My 23' cost ~2500USD from Baltimore Harbour to Bremerhaven Harbour, plus
400EUR in Bremerhaven for local organization, plus taxes and stuff in
Europe.

As this is an antique vehicle, taxes and customs are joint to a total of
6 or 7% (can't remember) total. Calculated on value of car (bill of
sale), plus shipping costs, plus organization costs in Bremerhaven.

If you don't do the customs declaration yourself, you can factor in
another 200EUR for that.

If you want to run your US registered car in Europe, you need an
additional insurance for Europe. A company called TourInsure in Hamburg
provides you that. First month is around 200+ - total for 6 monath was
~600EUR, if you don't use all 6 month, they'll give you back the unused
month (minus a fee of 20EUR). If you want to go through Russia, you need
another insurance. Price is identical.

Most people think it is quite inexpensive. Especially when compared to
shipping a care from one of the coasts of the US to the other.

In '94 the cost to ship a Mazda Miata from LA to Bremerhaven was
1500USD. Just for comparison.
