Halon, and it's modern substitutes is heavier than air and gets blown away easily. It works well in enclosed areas like the refrigerator compartments
etc. It is much less effective in open areas like the GMC engine compartment. It will work if you way over size it to overcome the amount of air
being blown in the front of the engine and the tendency to sink out of the bottom of the engine area.

In a previous life I use to size, design, and sell Halon fire suppression systems for computer rooms, telephone equipment rooms, and motor rooms.
After figuring out the cubic feet requirements, we designed an interlock system to shut down powered ventilation to the covered areas.

I have no idea how much halon would be needed to accomplish this oversize requirement on a GMC. I know it would take a lot more than is needed in a
tightly cowled auto. If I were installing this I would place the nozzle(s) pointing at the top of the engine and placed as far forward as practical.

I am not anti-halon. I have two auto-deploy ones in my refrigerator compartment and directly over the carb and fuel pump in my Onan compartment.
